Okay, so I definitely need to get on this graphic designer thing! I’ve been doing it for…3 years now? And I’m quite the below average artist. I can only make desktop wallpapers and such. I have to get better at abstract works. I need to learn to make vectors, make works from scratch, and learn to paint. I’m so limited in my work. Gotta fix that.
How to be a better graphic designer
How I did it: I was interested in graphics when I was very young. I used to just play around in photoshop and paint shop pro. I was self taught and realized I was decent at it. In high school I got to use it a little but I decided to further it in college. I didn't really learn a lot of new things, just how to use them properly. I got my degree and I really became a better graphic designer when I had a job in that field. I was forced to design and come up with ad campaigns and marketing schemes. It really forced me to think outside of the box.
Lessons & tips: Learn as much as you can, but you will learn a lot more by actually working in the field with the occupation.

i’m sick of having my work judged, modified, creative rights and freedoms taken away, having my skills become obsolete with the fast paced field, having to pay for classes to update your skills and getting really crappy paying jobs in return.
I’m absolutely addicted to Flickr now after the whole yahoo photos switchover. There are some amazingly inspiring groups for graphic designers. I’ve recently been inspired by “Photoshop Tennis” (designers take an original photograph in the thread and post changes as they go, so you end up with a completely edited photograph). Also allows you to discuss techniques, etc. Anything from beginner to advanced.
I like graphic design and do a fair bit at work but it proves difficult as I am red/green/brown colourblind! I’d also like to learn to paint or draw properly but again the colourblindness makes it a little difficult.
I have mastered most of Paintshop Pro and Adobe Illustrator and have some flair for creativity so I just need to work on developing my skills and trying to do more at work.
I don’t think I will ever be able to do it as a job though.
Well I don’t know if i’m the best. But I’m the best that I can be.
I have perfected Flexi-Signpro. and got out of the Corel box and perfected Adobe CS Suite. including photoshop and picture perfect.
Just to see the look on peoples faces that see my designs and signs is great.
Ok, I’m getting the basics of using the path tool in Photoshop, but I’m sure I’m nowhere near unlocking the potential of it. It’s just a real pain in the neck trying to get the paths to form the shape/curve that I’m gunning for. Does anyone have/know a good guide to laying out paths? Also, I have no idea qhat vctor and raster mean/do; but I think they’re important…

“I'd like to learn more about creating visually pleasing and effective designs. Are there any good sites/books to read? I've looked into school, but from what I see, they don't really teach much that you can't find online.”
