I have a light therapy lamp and a bodyclock, and between those and a more positive, relaxed attitude and an attempt to exercise more regularly I feel I’ve got through the winter a lot better than I usually do. Of course, it’s only just after Christmas, but at least it’s all uphill from here!

I’ve now got a bodyclock, an alarm clock that wakes you up by gradually increasing the light level in the room to simulate dawn. It works really well.
Then last week my light therapy lamp arrived. It’s great! I can sit by the computer and bathe in really bright light. I’m sure it’s helping my mood already.
We’re just getting to the stage where light levels are dropping, so I’m going to get a light treatment lamp over the next couple of weeks. I’m making sure I get plenty of exercise, as much sunlight as I can manage and taking multivitamins, iron and ginseng.
I’m determined that I’m not going to spend the whole of this winter under a cloud!

I love winters. One of the things that I think has helped me from ever being depressed with winter is that I ski. That makes me appreciate the season, and I would recommend it to anyone. Find some activity that you can do that will help you enjoy the winter, and it will help. Some more ideas are photography, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, etc.
I’m fed up of spending the summer dreading the winter and the winter desperately waiting for summer to come again. I’m determined to get through the winter better this year, even if it means going on anti-depressants. I’m also going to look into getting a special light – I’m sure I need more light than I get. It might be enough to get me through in more comfort this year.
