317 pages out of 350 now edited in the fourth draft. Somewhat slower than I expected – partly that I’d not put in as many hours, but mostly because I’ve been rewriting more than I thought I’d have to. It’s worth it though. 3 weeks ago

In the fourth draft I have
- identified and fixed three significant inconsistencies/plot holes
- identified a load of places I’ve used “seem” and “feel” and updated the sentences to use stronger phrasing
- searched for every -ly adverb and culled a load of them.
- so far done a general edit up to page 131 (out of 350) with lots of turning telling into showing, cutting phrases to make it punchier, and a fair few typo and grammar corrections.

220 more pages to go on this draft … I had a week off over Easter so need to make up for lost time. 1 month ago

I’ve just finished revising the first chapter of the fourth draft; I re-ordered some paragraphs to make sure it started with more of a punch, and cleaned up a few little sections (mostly cutting unnecessary fluff). Twenty-seven more chapters to go on this revision.

I guess Draft 5 will be when I need to read it aloud and check for the rhythm and feel of the passages. 2 months ago

And since the last post, I’ve had eight different addresses, moved country, changed day job (from teaching back to IT, via IT training). My momentum with the novel was lost in the frenzy. BUT in November-ish I started to get back to it, and then in the New Year I set myself the target to get the thing ready to submit by mid-may (my Birthday).

So, I’m about 3,000 words away from finishing the THIRD draft now; hopefully the last one that will involve much extensive rewriting (but I’m not ruling it out). That means I expect the subsequent drafts (however many I stretch to) to be rather quicker. Once the fourth draft is done (basically a clean-up of the third), I’m going to ask a few trusted people to have a read and give me feedback. 2 months ago

current word count = 37,390 + 20 pages = 169 pages.
A bit stuck on the current scene, but will be past it in a few days.
I have increased my exercise so the blood pumping will hopefully stimulate my imagination.
Also I have a new deadline, this one is immovable:
Mid April for the manuscript assessment, which I aim to submit my novel to, hopefully it will be finished by then, otherwise I will have to submit a partially completed novel.
I will also have a deadline for a full rewrite, ie 2nd draft: June 30. 2 months ago

Which means I’ve only written 7 pages since feb 10.
I plan to step up my output rate from 7pgs/10 days
to 6pgs/2 days = 24pgs/8 days

= 24* 7 = 160 + 139 + 20 prewritten pages = 320 pages due April 17 3 months ago

somehow I’m now at 129 pages, I have been through a serious rewriting session. So I guess I’m now on third draft.

My rate is still about 10 pages each week, but rewrites tend to set me back.

I expect to hit 320+ by March 24 2013.

I should meet my completion goal by February 26, 2013.

It will have taken me 3 years to complete from 1st to final draft.
From January 2010 – February 2013.

I plan to complete future novels within a two year time frame.

I am in the process of writing my first novel and novella. I want to see which I complete first and get my works published. Just cant wait to turn my passion into a full time career. It would be nice to look forward to going to “work”. 23 months ago

I love to write and have several good story ideas in my head. I want to write a novel or novella and get it published. When I was in high school I won several awards for some short stories I had written in English classes and I got a lot of satisfaction from that. I think that to have a novel of mine published would be an even greater feeling than that. 1 year ago
