But one day while swimming I managed to be able to tread water for like 5 minutes straight. Now I have no problem with it but to be honest I don’t know what changed.

this isn’t the actual picture of me treading, but it’s a nice substitute. i honestly don’t know why i didn’t know how to do this before, but even though i can tread water now, i can barely stay above water, it suuucks.
I’m having the most trouble with treading water using just my feet, any suggestions?

I am marking this as done, but I’m going to add a new one for pass my swim test.

Well, I guess if I’m treading water, I don’t really tread a lot of water, it’s more of a length of time right? Then I treaded water for about 25 minutes total today at the William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center in DC. The longest that I did was 14 minutes. I guess I’m ready for that 10 minute tread water test for my scuba class.

In order to get my open water diver certification, I need to do this for 10 minutes. I think I could have done this if I didn’t do the 200 meter swim test right before. I made it 3 minutes, and then was out of breath.
Whenever I try to tread water, I can’t seem to do it.
I’ve tried the method where you move your legs like on a bicycle and I’ve also tried the method where you circle your legs one in a clockwise movement and the other leg circling counter clockwise.
I wonder if there’s something I’m missing for forgetting to do?
