My summer reading book is finished.
My roommates are chatted with.
My linens and most other things are shipped off.
The last things to do are to pick up some school supplies, and pack my clothes, and hop on the plane on Saturday… 4 years ago
My transcript is on its way, my counselor recommendation will soon follow. I’m having a little trouble with two freshman courses I need to enroll in, but hopefully I will sort that out soon enough. This is what happens when you leave the country for two weeks.
I also ordered my special extra-long sheet set today, dropping the envelope in the box tomorrow morning. I picked hunter green and ivory. :) 4 years ago
I have no idea what to do to be ready for college. now that i have graduated, and have so much time on my hands i don’t know what to do with it. i wish i could know what courses i am taking and get the books and assignments and get a head start! haha! i’m such a dork. i guess what scares me is that i dont’ know what to expect. i don’t know if its going to be hard or easy. im just soo confused and excited at the same time… and really scared that im getting myself into something i wont’ like. oh gosh! 4 years ago
Sent in the enrollment form to Brandeis this morning!
I visited Brandeis and Boston University earlier this week, and the differences are astounding. At BU, the admissions office was staffed entirely by young pretty sorority girls. Including the admissions OFFICER.
I should probably record all the differences, but to be honest, I’m too tired. The people (students and professors) at Brandeis are friendly and smart, the classes are interesting, and although the dorms aren’t as nice as they are at BU, that is a minor thing. And Brandeis has fresh baby lettuce. A requirement for a college!
I’ve been told quite a bit that when one walks onto their perfect college campus, one feels an existential sigh of comfort.
I didn’t get that.
I figure it’s like being pregnant: some women know instinctively when they’re knocked up, and most don’t. Some people know instinctively when they’ve stumbled upon their dream campus, and most don’t. I like Brandeis very much – just because I didn’t feel that existential sigh doesn’t mean I should dismiss it as my perfect college.
From now on, “get ready for college” means work out roommate-y stuff and all that goodness. Hooray! 4 years ago
Final Count:
Accepted at: American, Brandeis, Boston U, Irvine, Davis, and Santa Barbara.
Haven’t heard back from: GWU
Rejected from: Everywhere else
It helps slightly to learn that all the schools I was rejected from only accepted about 9% of their applicants.
Currently Brandeis is looking like the right choice. 4 years ago
Currently accepted at American, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and Brandeis.
Still waiting on the others… 4 years ago
First acceptance letter, from American University!
Too bad that’s not really where I want to go… 4 years ago
After a mini-panic, Midyear Reports are in, SAT scores are in, everything is in! Only thing left to do is wait. UC scores should be coming in March 31st. 4 years ago
All my college applications are in. All done. Besides the UCs, they are:
American University
Boston University
Brandeis University
George Washington University
Johns Hopkins University
University of Pennsylvania
Tufts University
My top choices are GW, JHU, and Tufts. Let’s hope I get in!
I also have a college interview on the seventh with Johns Hopkins. Let’s hope I impress the lady! =D 5 years ago
Today I submitted my UC application! If I turn into a moron and get rejected from all the other colleges (I hope not), then I have three very good schools to fall back on. Yay! 5 years ago
One of the benefits of cleaning up your room: You find important letters that you thought were supposed to come a month later.
I got a four on the AP English Language and Composition exam. YES! Woohoo! That I know for sure is good. 5 years ago
Got my SAT II scores!
Chemistry 560
Literature 680
Mathematics Level 2 570
So is this good? Anyone, anyone? 5 years ago
I, because I am awesome, got on the Dean’s List.
Fear me and my awesome grades. 5 years ago
Done with finals! Yes! Math was a complete awful mess, but I expect everyone did about the same. English was alright. Jewish Studies was easy. Econ was ridiculously easy. Chemistry was easy.
Woohoo! Done with junior year! Now the next step is…”Continue to refine your list of potential colleges.” That’s easy. Oh, and summer reading books. 5 years ago
Finals on Monday (English and Math), Tuesday (Jewish Studies and Econ), and Wednesday (Chemistry). Most worried about the first two, the rest will be a breeze. I hate writing essay upon essay upon essay, and essay writing in general, and my math teacher sucks so right now it’s just a really big HRAURGH! Like that.
Tonight I’m going to order a few presents for myself to enjoy once finals are over. 5 years ago
Finished the SAT IIs this morning. Did well on the Lit, probably got 200s on both the Math 2 and Chem. Bah! Curse this evil standardized tests!
I had been considering taking Chem and PreCalc courses over the summer, but not now I’m not so sure. 5 years ago
I got 2010. Twenty points LESS than last time.
However, I must keep in mind that either way they’re very good scores. It’s still very frustrating. 5 years ago
Help! Help help help! I am too stressed for this shit! I’ve got SAT IIs this weekend, SAT I scores released in two hours, a Jewish Studies presentation tommorrow that I was told would be next Tuesday, tons of math homework for 100 points, notes for the Great Gatsby I haven’t taken, tons of English homework I haven’t done -
HELP! 5 years ago
I’ve decided to take all three of the SAT IIs at once – it would be stupid not to. The next time to take them is October, and I will have forgotten everything by then.
SAT scores come out May 31st. Supposedly CollegeBoard.com will send me an email and let me know.
Turned in my application for the Senior-Freshman mentoring program. That’ll look fantastic on my college application. 5 years ago
Just finished up the second round of SATs. SAT IIs in a month. I might take the English Lit. next month, and move the Chem and Math to after the summer. 5 years ago
Just finished the AP English Language Exam an hour ago. I’m retaking the SATs on Saturday, but I’m not worried about that. I mean, if I don’t score as well as I did last time, that’s okay because my score last time was great!
Now to spend the rest of the day relaxing. 5 years ago
Egads! I’ve fallen behind on this! SAT tutoring is beginning to feel a little useless. Well, not entirely useless, it’s helpful to keep practicing.
I missed ‘contact colleges’ from February, but that’s not time-sensitive. I can go about that later.
For April, the SAT is already registered for, and I’ve got both a summer course and a volunteership (I hope!) waiting for me. I’ll register for the SAT IIs for June (oh wow, the deadline’s soon! I’m glad I looked at this) tommorrow. It’s a bit hard to visit colleges during Spring Break, seeing as it has already started. That’s okay, I can do it this summer. The last thing for April is the Los Angeles National College Fair. Maybe? 5 years ago
Had my first SAT tutoring session for math yesterday. My tutor is a dog person. :) I think with a little more work I’ll do fine in the math section. My SAT English tutor has not called me back, and I’m getting worried. 5 years ago
Reading: 720
Math: 620
Writing: 690 (9/12)
Total: 2030
Yay! I think? Is that a yay? People have been telling me different things. 6 years ago
Took the SATs yesterday! Did well on the essay, egh on the math, and well on all the reading and grammar stuff. What’s next up on the list?
Hmm, still have to do some preliminary stuff from September, but it’s not a big deal. After grades (duh, doing fine with those), there is SAT subject tests and list of extracurrics. 6 years ago
“Thank you, Rachel! You successfully registered for the SAT.”
Hahaha oh thank God. I was worried all the spots would be filled up. And I got my first choice of registration sites! Yay! That was the first step on the College Admission Timeline. Haha, cat. 6 years ago
I got back from Washington D.C. on Thursday – I want to go to GW University. It’s a good size (9,000), it has both a School of Medicine and a School of Public Health, the dorms are some of the best in the country, the city around it is great (the metro is soooo much fun), and they have a produce department in the student union. With actual green things. Like asparagus.
I’m sold. 6 years ago
The school sent out a very handy checklist on how to get ready for college admissions. Time to get on the ball and preparing to be a capable adult. This means taking responsibility for myself.
Fortunately, I have not missed any deadlines yet. But now it’s time to face up to reality and get started. 6 years ago
