I am a historical reenactor in my spare time. In my part of the US, you always wear a hoop skirt and corset. I always feel different in my corset, more able, confident, and in touch with the past. Make sure any corset you buy is well made, not a cheap wedding corset that digs into you and bends in the wrond direction.
I get to travel down to Columbia, Tennessee every Christmas and go to their Ball, it is so wonderful to see all the ladies in their victorian gowns and laced to perfection…
GO FOR IT!!!

Where do you get one? Do you have to wear any particular clothes when you have one on, or can you just wear a t-shirt?

If the corset is fitted correctly, it should not hurt. Tight lacing is a fetish thing, rather like the difference between wearing a bra, and wearing a bra that is more for “show” than for wearing for any length of time. it is still something to get used to, as you cannot slump, slouch or over-eat while wearing one. Some basic functions take some getting used to as well, which is why, when wearing one, the other period underwear is highly recommended.

I love corsets. I would love to have a Victorian Corset to wear with the Victorian gown I wish I had. The Edwardian, I would like to have for more “normal” wear. I like how they go down to the hips.
