hi
How to write music
How I did it: Well, I'm not sure how well it would work for a non-musician or new musician that wants to write a random song but... I just sing the notes to myself and use a keyboard to test it then put it on manuscript paper or programs like Finale. I've created almost complete scores, but they're lacking percussion. I still consider this a success.
Note: It doesn't necessarily take only seven days or over four months. It depends on how much time you put into it in a day. It could even take a single day if you work all day depending, but it's never truly complete until a band/orchestra does some trial and error.
Lessons & tips: Learn how to play percussion instruments. If you want a full score then you better know how to write it.
Resources: Being a dedicated musician and clinics. You learn a lot in clinics and the pros always talk about composition.

I have this crazy fantasy.
Having been fully in love with the most wonderful conductor, and now, having lost him… I have this crazy fantasy of writing a piece declaring my love for him through melody… his language. I do have extensive experience with music, but to actually write a piece for band is quite the daunting task. Hopefully, he’ll come back to me before it’s done!
ChrisLedwidge is sorting myself out.
I’ve a week off work this week so I’ve got a load of things to restart.
I plan on going through the old singer / songwriter style guitar stuff and getting them written down and completed as songs.
I began studying classical guitar properly 2 months ago and this week I’m going to write an etude type piece, in the style of Carcassi / Carulli etc.
At our group’s last Jam session, Stacy brought up a great idea for a song, and we fleshed it out a little. I’m hoping that we make that a more regular thing, then buckle down and get some of them written.

But I can’t. I’m not sure if it’s for me, I do enjoy a good write. It’s still on my list of things to aspire to, but I think my creative outlet will be different to just writing music.
When I listen to music I’m not entirely focused on the lyrics, I just like songs that make me feel good. Like a warm wave in the sea.
I’ve either done this, or i know for certain it will be done. There’s no point for me to keep track of it here so I’m claiming it done.
Well, it really isn’t, but I think I’m going to start arranging again. I used to arrange for a quartet I sang with. The woman who was the soprano is a dear friend and she wants me to arrange some things for us to record. I like arranging. It’s fun and I really feeling accomplished when I’ve arranged something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah – it ain’t writin’ music, but it’s a start! Ummm, a restart???
I’ve actually written three songs that I think have worth. Actually, I think two of them have worth. I’m not as sure of the third one. I even tried to arrange the Christmas song i wrote for my a cappella group.
Here are the words for my Christmas song. It’s called Why?
I don’t understand this baby boy.
Why is he so rare?
People rush to watch him sleep.
Why do people care?
Three Kings kneel in the straw.
Why do they come where he lies?
The mother sings as she rocks her son.
Why are there tears in her eyes?
I don’t understand this baby boy.
Why is he the one?
A shepherd said he was born to God.
Why is he God’s son?
The animals speak of a heavenly grace.
Why can they talk this night?
They say he’ll make all people free.
Why would he bring us light?
I don’t understand this baby boy.
Why does the night sky glow?
I hear he loves me as I am.
Why should he love me so?
Tell me what he wants from me.
Why can’t I understand?
He frightens me with his quiet smile.
Why do I fear his hand?
I don’t understand this baby boy.
Why does my soul feel strange?
He holds my life in his open hands.
Why do I know I am changed?
