might be getting a v cheap bread maker v soon… fingers crossed!
How I did it: I ended up starting a website: http://brokeandhungry.bravehost.com and I needed to try the recipe before I would post it. I really liked the recipe because I didn't have to "knead" or anything... it was simple. Considering I made it in a casserole dish (I ran out of bread pans) I found out easily that the recipe just may be idiot proof.. lol. It just changed the looks of the bread and not the flavor. (I'll have to start making it in a bread pan so it looks a little less... grey rock, and a little more appealing to the eye.
I decided to keep using the recipe and start making my own bread from home. We're not buying it anymore.
The picture isn't that great, neither were the looks of the bread, but the TASTE was amazing.
Lessons & tips: Have fun with it. If you're making white bread there are lots of toppings you can do. Rolled oats, or parmesan and oregano, jalapeno seasoning (seriously), italian seasoning, cheese bread, ect. Just have fun with it and don't let anything stop you..
You never know... it might just make you change your mind about storebought bread.
Resources: The recipe that was given to me. It only required four ingredients: flour, yeast, salt, water. It's in the link in my website as "no fuss" bread.

I’ve bought a bread machine. And have started making some yummy wholemeal loaves. Haven’t actually bought a supermarket loaf for 3 weeks!! Have only had a couple of minor mishaps – one loaf sank like a stone cos I forgot and left it in the machine and one didn’t get the seeds in it cos the dispenser thingy didn’t work. But generally – yum, yum. Next step is to start trying some different recipes. This is such good fun
I made my first loaf of bread… I shouldn’t have tried such a hard bread (Italian herb bread) to make… because it tasted like CRAP! I forgot to add the salt.
Funny thing is that is smelled soooooo good.
I even tryed to eat different parts of it… thinking that some part will taste good….. no I was wrong… the whole thing tasted like crap
I will try again…. different bread this time
I made Japanese Roll Breads with vegi sausages.
I thought it was difficult to make, but it’s not !
It was not perfect but it was good. I like it !
I baked the sourdough loaves today – they’re more like bricks, very, very heavy – but good.
I made olive and cheese bread yesterday, as well as continuing along with the sourdough recipe. I took some pictures. I should put them up on flickr, and then put them up here. Yes.
Tomorrow I’m going to make the beginning of a sourdough loaf – according to Elizabeth Luard’s book about food in Portugal and Spain, all you have to do is mix flour and water together and leave it for 24 hours, then do that again, and again, and eventually you bake most of it and save a little bit to be the starter for the next lot. We shall see.
