In this economy, it’s important to be able to adapt to any contingency.
People doing this are also doing these things:

Iv’e been reading books about investment and smart ways to handle your money.
All I need to do now is learn more about different investment options and select the right one for me.
Ounce that selection has been made I will put my time & effort into that type of investment… weither it’s relestate or stocks… I need to go out and find the right one for me.
....might as well learn more about it instead of just checking on it every now and then. I think this would be a good resolution for this year.
..what I’m not doing is actually investing!
Or… rather I have, but you always wonder if you could do better with what you have.
Fortunately (or unfortunately – depending on point of view), I’ve not got a lot of choice in the short-term… I’m being forced by circumstances to invest in a certain manner… so I’m getting rid of this goal… I think I know enough – all I need is to commit to action!
I’m eighteen and I put two grand in a secure mutual fund as a sort of retirement fund. The plan is to drop some more money into it here and there and just let it grow as I grow old.
I might look into buying some real estate, but that could cost me in taxes or other sorts of up-keep, so I think I’ll wait a few years when I’m a little more stable with my job/housing etc.
i’m not sure exactly what i was thinking when i made this a goal, but i really don’t need or want to learn. will i invest someday? hopefully, but i don’t need to learn to do it myself. there are pros for that.
For me, one of the best sources of information was a talk-radio
show called “MoneyTalk” by Bob Brinker. I listened to it
for a few years. I even subscribed to his newsletter. Though
it seems alittle pricey, it paid for itself when I was out of the Market prior to the crash in 2001.
Check out his website at http://www.bobbrinker.com/. On the left
pane of his main page is a link to radio stations. If there is
one in your area, listen to it. He also has links to educational resources.
I especially like his cautionary tales of “Shark Attacks”. Listen to the show and you’ll see what I mean.
