DoctorTeeth says, "Oh Sky Cake, why are you so delicious?"
When I started a legitimate job, that gave me a legitimate paycheque, I allowed myself one little shopping spree. And during that spree I knew I needed to get at least one thing for my wife.
So when I was buying my xBox, I looked at the mp3 players that were there because she needed a new one. I initially got her a 2GB Creative pink model, but she didn’t like the particular shade of pink so I returned it and got a SanDisk model. I think she downgraded in terms of quality, but she thinks this one’s prettier, and it’s her prerogative.
And when I was buying my copy of Rock Band 2 about a week later, I stepped out into the parking lot and saw a house and home store. I remembered she wanted a comforter, so I popped in and got a model she liked. It’s not down, which means it’s not too hot for me, but it’s still fairly heavy, so it’s not too cold for her. It’s (nearly) perfect!
So those are my two November gifts. And I think that since I’ve been doing this goal for ten months, I can call it successfully accomplished! December’s going to be kind of a write-off because of Christmas anyhow, but I’ll still keep up my efforts when January rolls around.

I got September’s gift when we were in New York City; my wife saw a tube of lip gloss that she really liked but couldn’t justify getting, so I picked it up for her without even thinking about it. It was probably the most spontaneous of her gifts: I just picked it up, took it to the till, and that was that.
I have a hazier memory for October. I want to say that I picked her up something great, but I don’t remember what it was. I’m sure I got her something small without even thinking of what it was, but I’m hard-pressed to remember the particular item. That’s okay, though. Because November’s is going to make up for it. (It’s less spontaneous, but still good.)

At the beginning of the month my wife commented that she really wanted to see Ocean’s 11 again, and when I was shopping for a few DVDs I happened to see it and picked it up for her. But then I remembered that DVDs didn’t count, so I knew I had to get her something else. And what with the Fringe Festival on, there are tons of vendors around selling jewelry and assorted trinkets, so I browsed through their wares and ended up getting her an unobtrusive little bracelet. She said that she liked it and it wasn’t the kind of thing she’d get for herself, which is apparently a good thing. Hooray for blind luck!

What better present does a guy want than a packet of lovely socks??
Well… that’s what Gary’s getting :)
I was in galway today and while browsing through the mens section of Penny’s I decided to buy gary a gift… So I got him socks… They look warm and initing… I’m sure he’ll love them tomorrow when I give them to him.. For no reason, obviously..

This isn’t going well… I haven’t been in many situations where this could come into play…. I bought a drink for a girl the other night I was out.. But that was obviously NOT “for no reason”!
I’m going to take out money tomorrow and set it aside in a seperate section of my wallet and spend it all impulsively for no reason on the people around me!

July's Gift
My wife and I went out to see Sam Roberts a couple of weeks ago; she’s gotten into him recently, and that just intensified after seeing the concert. So I picked up an album of his the other day, seeing as how she didn’t have any and has just been using a handful of mp3s to make her fix. I know I said I’d try not to do a cd or dvd, but this time it just had to be. Maybe I’ll pick things up in August.

These two gifts suffer from my lack of creativity and my tendency to buy people things that I would like, or at least variations on things that I would like. In May, I bought a DVD (Love Actually) that I found when I was shopping for DVDs for myself. In June, I was getting a drink at a local restaurant and I saw their display of Putomayo CDs; I know my wife has a few of those that she likes very much, so I bought her one in the same vein. She likes both of her presents, but I’m going to try and stretch my limits beyond “CD/DVD/book” in July.

I haven’t bought many presents lately but i think that’s mainly because I’ve been cooped at home most of the time. Thats a problem with living in the country, you only ever leave the house for practical things like work or shopping!
I suppose after the leaving cert I’ll have more friends to choose to do stuff with and I’ll start taking day trips and doing things again. I’ve Edinburgh and all that at the end of the exams so ya!... Lots of opportunity to buy stuff then!

We were walking down the road and Darren said he could really go for a pack of fruit gums. So as he and Gary stalked off to GameStop to but GTA4 I left them, went to the €2 store bought fruit gums for Darren, Smarties for Gary and Fruit Pastilles for myself and Rolo’s (obviously)
They were completely taken aback by this… “Dave.. Being nice?” But their faces looked a bit like this—> :D
So I think It went down well… \o/ Go me!
I’m so kicking ass at this goal!
