I became a face painter and I totally love it. Making a difference in kids’ lives by letting them escape to a world of fantasy and princess or animal or whateverness for even a moment, no matter what they’re going through, is the most amazing feeling in the world.

although getting started took a long time, i’ve done this many times since then. when i got back into town from my visit with my sister, i practiced face painting on my (extremely patient) friends from church at an outdoor movie. then we went to play with some kids the next day, and i brought my face paints so i got TONS of practice (and also made a huge mess). i’ve done it a few other times too. i’m still not very good, although i’m surprised when i find out i CAN draw something that i didn’t know i could draw. but it’s messy and it’s fun – and it’s pretty much the best getting-to-know-you game EVER.
i like to let people paint my face too. when i get a photo of last saturday, when i let a two-year-old cover my face in paint, i’ll need to put that up. some classier work by one of my roommates is above.
yay face painting!
hurray for fourth of july in florida with my sister… most of the paint ended up on arms, and some inside the sleeve of my hoodie, but there was some on faces… see above for proof.
apparently, you’re not really supposed to use regular acrylics on your face. you’re supposed to have water-based face-painting paints. so i guess i need to get those before i attack any of my friends with a paintbrush.
well, i bought some paints the other day, and last nite i was home alone so i practiced on MY face. that was fun. i played tic-tac-toe.
i hope acrylics are safe neough. i didn’t break out or anything, but i don’t know if this is supposed to be a tempera-only activity.
i need to go to the art store anyway.
the only question is, who will be the lucky contestant?
