i made the decision to jog since 2 months ago but i only started to jog a few days ago. on day 1, i jogged during the evening but i realized that i didn’t like it so much because there were too many joggers on the track at that hour. so on the following day (day 2), i tried out jogging at 7AM. i prefer this hour of the day to jog because there aren’t any people at all on the track. to top it all off, the morning breeze felt nice on my skin. i wanted to go jog again in the morning today (day 3) but i couldn’t make myself get out of bed. i felt bad not jogging in the morning, so i went out to jog around 11AM. it would usually be hot at this hour but because today is quite cloudy, there wasn’t any sun. i didn’t like it much either at this hour, though. in short, i like 7AM jogs and i plan to maintain this routine as long as i can.

so far i can only do 5 laps around my complex. it sounds like nothing but it’s a lot for me because my stamina isn’t high. i will eventually pick up pace as time goes by.

How I've been doing so far 5 months ago

Right. Truth is: I completely forgot about having signed up to 43 things. Well, there was a weekly reminder about “Practice zazen daily” which kept pestering me week after week and I couldn’t apparently cancel. But today I logged in and found that there were several other items in my list (jogging being – obviously – one of them). Well, to cut things short: I did (run) and for a long time as well. I kept running on a weekly basis for almost a full year. I did not realized fully until now. I began to run on Spring of 2008 – I believe it was May. I used to live near the biggest park in Rome (Villa Borghese) back then. From my house it was just 10 minutes’ walk to the park. Last fall I even bought I cardio watch which came with a gps to monitor my progresses. Last december I had to move to a new place and – due to winter season and the commuting journey to work being longer – I began run less frequently until I stopped altogether last March.
Now I’d like to begin again I run 20 minutes for a test 2 weeks ago. It seems I even found a running pal (which is great). Anyway, here’s my running diary: so far I managed to sum up 45 session and run 132 km for a total of 21:01 hours of running. Not bad, isnt’it?

I jogged six blocks or so. With some stopping. And some walking. But it was fun; I saw new parts of my neighborhood. I think it’ll improve my breathing in general.

first week impressions 18 months ago

I’ve jogged before, it’s fun to do it with a friend, but it’s great alone as well. Secret is start slowly and when I say slowly I really mean SLOWLY. A good first week program would be jog 1 minute, walk 3 minute, repeat 3 more times. Do it three times a week. Second week, jog 1 minute, walk two minutes, repeat 5 more times…and so on.
There are plenty of such programs to be found on the web.
Anyway, this week I went jogging twice and I’m going out again in a few minutes… It felt great! I can’t wait.

jogging seems like it would be such great meditation time – but it kills my sides! am I breathing wrong? How do you breath?

I jogged. Uphill no less. Wasn’t as hard as I’d been expecting after months of sloth. Perhaps I should do this more often?

This is how I clear my mind and body of all the stress from the day. It’s good for me (although my knees may not agree with that in ten years…)
