How to see a real Van Gogh
How I did it: I had been to London's National Gallery shortly after I moved to England in 2003, but my first experience seeing Van Gogh's Sunflowers was not a positive one so I knew that someday I would go back.
That day was 25 October 2009. I was in London a few hours before I was due to meet a friend for the day. (Thankfully I am only an hour by train to London! I am so grateful for this!) and I stopped in the National Gallery and made a point to go see Sunflowers.
And I was positively overwhelmed by emotion and moved to tears. It was so intense for me, not only was I sitting across from my favourite piece of artwork, but I was also reconciling a bad experience that took place there over 5 years ago. (that is why I say it took me 5 years to see a real Van Gogh, because the first time I saw it, I do not count as a real experience.)
Lessons & tips: Plan your journey to where you are going to see it. or just know in advance where the artwork/painting(s) are and turn up.
