I’ll start off slow doing 1 minute at a time and build up. My goal is to be able to jump for 10 minutes solid.
How I did it: During the summer, in the half hour between midnight and Craig Ferguson, I would go outside and jump rope in front of my house. Frustrating at first, but if you do it everyday you progress quickly. It really works ya body. First calves get sore, then butt, then thighs. All for $1.99. Pros: cheap, convenient, booty-kicking
Lessons & tips: Watch out for your calves feeling like they're being sliced open with knives. Take it slow the first couple days.

I decided to go outside today. I grabbed my jump rope and the first thing I noticed when I walked onto the porch was how good the air smelled—I love that about being in such a verdant area. I attempted to do it on rocks and grass but obviously that didn’t work out too well so I went onto this nice pavement by the road. I was a tad self-conscious when cars would drive by but I was glad I was doing it anyway.
My top three scores today were
I usually did about 20 and I took about a minute break in between the jump sessions. I could feel my lungs hurting a tad—which happens whenver I exercise so I guess that is a good sign? Also, I did it barefoot so my feet will become impervious to pain. Then I’ll walk on lava fields. ;)
I got my jump rope in the mail a few months ago. In stead of starting right away I took some time to read my book and get an idea for proper form. I have been jumping inside on carpet bear foot. When I mess up the PVC cord of the speed rope catches me right in the toes. I was so focused on staying on the balls of my feet that I didn’t realize my heals were too high making my toes point down. This wasn’t a solve all however and I am still catching my feet. I will get my timing down and my muscles will build up a memory. I find that this is a great meditation. When I am distracted, Whack! right in the toes. My core is getting stronger and I am getting more chest. I’m looking forward to mastering the basic jump so that I can move on to alternating feet.
This is the best quality speed jump rope I could find. I can’t wait for it to come in.

Check out Buddy Lee. Buddy Lee is THE name in jump rope.
I have a book coming in and I’m going to get the best speed rope I can get. I have a cotton rope which has too much drag. The more I read about jump roping the more amazing and excited I get about it. I’m sure that it will help my hacky sack game.
The song “Heartbeat” by War is a 7 minute song. I’ve set a goal to jump rope for the entire length of that song. I prefer this over counting jumps. I want to think about more than numbers when I’m working out. I can’t get around counting for weightlifting.
I found both of my nice jump ropes in the attic when I was looking for something else. I got carried away with it and my legs were way sore. Healthy heart is the way to go. The work out will help my Hacky Sack game too.
