Update our Laws – Many of the laws currently on the books have roots that are centuries old. We need to sweep through the lawbooks and update silly and outdated laws. (In Arizona Donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs.) Huh??
My solution is to do my part to irradicate the ridiculous marijuana laws in this country. Recent evidence has provent that not only does marijuana use not rapidly degenerate brain cells in rats like tobacco and alcohol do, it acutally increases the neurogens in the brain. This research in no way indicates that marijuana use is good for humans, but it goes along way to dispell the myths surrounding marijauna-related brain damage. British researchers found that drivers who had used marijuana were better drivers than those who were drunk; and get this if you are slightly impaired by alcohol their research suggests that your driving may be less reckless if you had also smoked a joint. What??? So now I’m wondering why the US spends over $7.4 BILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR outlawing marijuana. Imagine saving $7.4 BILLION DOLLARS every year just by legalizing and regulating the substance like alcohol and tobacco. Add the fact that one acre of hemp can produce as much paper as over four acres of trees, hemp produces methanol the most basic alcohol which can be used to produce ethanol, the only alternative fuel that will run in all current diesel engines. While electric cars could right now take the place of our petroleum-based vehicles, commercial semis and other large machines may take sometime, in the meantime hemp-based ethanol could provide all the fuel we need to become completely independant of other nations. Imagine not depending on the Middle East for oil, if America were to switch to hemp-based ethanol gas prices would drop considerably, US jobs would increase, and our Import/Export balance would beocme much more ‘Amercian’. In order to be ‘Free’ America must not depend on any other nation for it’s energy. Hemp-based ethanol is safer, cleaner, and easier to produce than standard gasoline, and other diesel and bio-diesel fuels (Including corn). Hemp grows in all 50 states in a variety of climates, it requires less water than cotton or corn and requires no pesticides. I feel like Columbo right now, “Why is this plant illegal?” That is a very fair question, I have my theories and I have heard a variety of other opinions, but one thing remains clear, the prohibition of Marijuana is not only a losing battle, but the end of this ridiculous prohibition will be the beginning of a new ‘American Revolution’ where America can re-orientate itself to be an independent state that all the world can envy. Right now a large part of the world, including many Americans, see us as greedy, gluttonous baffoons. We are ignorant of our own discourse, we let money run our lives and International corporations run our laws. I wonder how the oil and foresting companies feel about marijuana and hemp-based materials? I would guess that they are very much opposed to any legislation that would allow America to utilize this natural wonder to it’s utmost benefit. I am going to start this campagin grass-roots style and hope that my efforts along with the many other groups out there can erradicate ridiculous laws and open the eyes of America to the benefits of the cannabis plant. In addiiton the stigma of marijuana use can be reduced which will inevitably lead to a lot of social changes that will be well-received by most.
