... and I got a book out today. All done. :)
Chris has done nothing this year. :(
How I did it: Fortunately the libraries in my city accept online registrations, so I simply filled in a form online.I was/am a little weary that I may have had an unpaid fine under a previous registration from when I was a lot younger, so doing this online is very much preferable.Except that the library service is run by the local government and they have my name and address, so if they want to come knocking on my door to charge me 10p per day multipli… Read how I did it…

.. yesterday afternoon actually, but I didn’t check my emails yesterday. I’m busy now until Thursday night, so I’ll try to remember to pop along then to pick up my card and maybe borrow a few books.

... I finally decided to stop procrastinating and make this a goal.
I’ve just checked out the local library opening times online and found out that I can register online. So I have to wait a couple of days for them to email me a PIN and account number. Then I can order books online and go and collect my card from the library.
Now I just need to go to the library…
calypte relax and enjoy life
Can’t believe this took me so long: walk into a huge room full of books, browse for as long as I like, and take home any book(s) that catch my fancy – for free! And I don’t even have to find shelf space for them :)
The turning point was finding out that I can order/return books to the small library at the top of my road, without incurring any charges. So while the building in the middle of town (once I’d found it! LOL!) is much nicer (although a lot lot smaller than I remember it… from 20 years ago. Ah.) it’s good to know convenience is equally available.
Of course, it’s not like I have any shortage of books to read already, but it’s nice to be able to go try something a bit different that I wouldn’t necessarily want to spend money on.
First book borrowed in, ooh – at least 15 years? Song of Kali by Dan Simmons :)
Kristi239 is feeling slightly insignificant today.
The hardest part is finding the time to go to the library and join! It only takes a few minutes. It was worth doing because it’s great to always have a book laying around in case I feel like reading.
WeirdFaerie I <3 Books
Lived on the island of Wight nearly eight months now and I hadn’t joined the library :o! Buuuut now I have ^^ Finally! I can borrow books now seeing as I can’t afford to buy. Shame about how small the local library is.. Back in my hometown there was five (!!!) libraries including a four floor gigantic building (I think my little town of Grimsby is trying to turn into a city :p). Whereas now, theres a tiny one down the street (Where i joined) and a slightly bigger one in Newport, which is twenty minutes away down country lanes.. But hey, at least I can get out books. Apparently I can borrow up to thirty (!) at a time
It’s been nine weeks in this new city and I have not yet joined the library—-how hard can it be (to quote Mag Ruffman!)

Holy shit it was so easy and they lent me some movies and Cds too!

Ulriight! Ok so Surry Hills isn’t open during the weekend, but Newtown sure is! I can’t take my dvds back on time though – so i’ve limited myself to one book at a time – starting with the X-Rated Bible (see goal #35 – Read the Bible).

Since i’ve moved i wasn’t sure where it was, but I went for a walk tonight and found one just a couple of blocks up! i think it’s technically surry hills or something but i’ll be heading down there on Saturday to become a member. woohoo!

“How are libraries funded? Number of members, or number of loans, or something else?”
