sgcSo happy...

I’m still swapping books on paperbackswap.com and getting free books on Kindle, but I’m really enjoying the variety of books I’m able to borrow from the LA library. Mostly it’s been sewing books because they’re expensive and you never know if they’re helpful until you try them.

(Now if I could only remember to take my books BACK to the library on time…) 18 months ago

PerdyshaI went to pick my card up...

... and I got a book out today. All done. :) 2 years ago

PerdyshaThe library replied..

.. yesterday afternoon actually, but I didn’t check my emails yesterday. I’m busy now until Thursday night, so I’ll try to remember to pop along then to pick up my card and maybe borrow a few books. 2 years ago

PerdyshaAfter 2 years of living in this city...

... I finally decided to stop procrastinating and make this a goal.

I’ve just checked out the local library opening times online and found out that I can register online. So I have to wait a couple of days for them to email me a PIN and account number. Then I can order books online and go and collect my card from the library.

Now I just need to go to the library… 2 years ago

Chris

WeirdFaerieSeven and a half months!!!

Lived on the island of Wight nearly eight months now and I hadn’t joined the library :o! Buuuut now I have ^^ Finally! I can borrow books now seeing as I can’t afford to buy. Shame about how small the local library is.. Back in my hometown there was five (!!!) libraries including a four floor gigantic building (I think my little town of Grimsby is trying to turn into a city :p). Whereas now, theres a tiny one down the street (Where i joined) and a slightly bigger one in Newport, which is twenty minutes away down country lanes.. But hey, at least I can get out books. Apparently I can borrow up to thirty (!) at a time 3 years ago

It’s been nine weeks in this new city and I have not yet joined the library—-how hard can it be (to quote Mag Ruffman!) 3 years ago

kepiCity of Sydney Library Member!

Ulriight! Ok so Surry Hills isn’t open during the weekend, but Newtown sure is! I can’t take my dvds back on time though – so i’ve limited myself to one book at a time – starting with the X-Rated Bible (see goal #35 – Read the Bible). 4 years ago

kepii found my new local library!

Since i’ve moved i wasn’t sure where it was, but I went for a walk tonight and found one just a couple of blocks up! i think it’s technically surry hills or something but i’ll be heading down there on Saturday to become a member. woohoo! 4 years ago

gorzatajust a step to get to the target

I’ve decided to read all Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett.
The problem is that I have only one book of this author;) The most simple option to get access to those books is to sign in to a library. hope that they’ll have books I need… 4 years ago

EvieWoohoo! I'm a Borrower!

Not a ‘customer’ or a ‘member’ or anything ordinary like that, no siree. When the lady who was filling out my card got interrupted she said she was “setting up a new borrower”. The word gave me a lovely cosy curled-up-in-a-nest-of-books feeling.

The library around the corner from the office turned out to be quite small and not very well organised, but it’s still a lot more books than I’d have access to otherwise. And my spiffy new card gives me access to all the city libraries, so when I have time or if I want something specific I can make a trip to one of the bigger ones. I get to borrow eight – eight! – books at a time, though I only got three today because they were closing for lunch. Should keep me going for a couple days at least :o) 4 years ago

calypteA question

How are libraries funded? Number of members, or number of loans, or something else? 4 years ago

EvieI have neither the space nor the money

to keep on buying books, and I have nothing left to read. This is, clearly, an untenable situation.

I’ve been intending to join the library for some time, but I didn’t have any bills or anything to use as proof of address – all my correspondence still goes to my dad’s house. Necessity is the mother of invention, though, and having confirmed with the library that an official letter would be acceptable, I simply sent myself a business-looking letter to my own address. It arrived this morning, so hopefully I should be able to go down to the library at lunchtime tomorrow and see what’s what. 4 years ago

kepiit's been four years since i've stepped foot into a library!

I walked past the library on my way home tonight, and had to really think about if i even still have my card! Perhaps i’m subconciously jeopardizing my “read all the books i have before buying even one more” goal, but i desperately wanted to go inside and get lost .. 5 years ago

bronte7723Yay!

We moved recently so I was waiting for a bill to arrive with my new address on it. The first one that arrived I stuffed in my back pack so it would be handy and called in on my way home from work one day. I’m loving having a ready supply of books again. My boyfriend not so much; now I am always reading and he feels neglected. 5 years ago

bronte7723I miss the library

I was always a member in my home town growing up. I miss it. I’ve recently moved house so as soon as we get a bill I can take in to prove my address I’m there. 5 years ago

I haven’t been to a library since I was in college. I applied to join my local library over the web, and all I gotta do now is go in and pick up my card.
Although, I really should finish reading all of my own books before I get even more. 5 years ago

KischaBooks!!!!

I finally joined last Friday. I got a member card and already borrowed a few books. From the money side it was definitely a good idea!
When I was younger I already had a library card, but kept on overdrawing the circulation period. I hope I will manage this better now. 5 years ago

AbsnasmNot used it yet...

..but I know I could if I wanted to, and it’s freedom of choice that’s the main thing. Isn’t it? 6 years ago

kittenesqueDon't know why it took me so long

I joined up one afternoon, easy to do and I got a teeny card that goes on my keyring so it’s to hand when I’m there. Already got out some books and had a fair poke around. 6 years ago

AbsnasmFree? Books?

I’m doing life coaching at the moment, and my coach keeps suggesting a multitude of books that would help me out. But I am as poor as a church mouse, so it seems like the library is the best option. And I’ve just found out I can join online, so I’ve just filled in the form and I’ll just have to wait until my card comes through! Now, if only I can push myself to actually read the books, rather than spending my pre-sleep time watching Most Haunted. 6 years ago

druttFinally got round to it

Joined up, borrowed a few books. Whether it’ll have any impact on the shocking amount of money I spend on books remains to be seen. I just keep on buying them. 6 years ago
