Recent activity

catattackIt's about 6 months since I could walk.

But 2 weeks ago, the doctor gave me a cortisone shot in my knee. This means I think I can walk again.

There’s still some pain, but not nearly the same as before. 2 years ago

catattackCan't walk.

It’s very frustrating. But apparently there’s something wrong with my left knee, which is inflamed and has gotten worse over the last few months. I’m waiting for the results of the x-rays. 3 years ago

catattackWalked a lot at Disney World.

We averaged 3.5 miles a day for 8 days. That actually came out to a lot in the first four days, and less in the last four. 3 years ago

catattackI'm not doing very well at this....

but I’ve found that my ordinary activity takes me to 1 mile or 1.5 miles a day. My goal is 2 miles a day, so if I could just walk around the neighborhood or something, I would be over that threshold.

Comic Con is next week, however, and I’m going early to San Diego and staying later, doing some sightseeing. Surely I’ll be walking an average of 4 miles a day or so. It will be a good week for walking. 3 years ago

catattackI now have a cold..

which is frustrating. I lack energy. But still, I have plans to walk with a friend on Wednesday. I’m giving myself until then to recover. And if I don’t feel up to it, I’ll just have lunch with my friend. 3 years ago

catattackI had my pedometer on at Disneyland...

and we walked more than 22 miles in the 4 days we were there, an average of about 5.5 miles a day!

My legs are really fatigued. I think I’ll take a day off. 4 years ago

catattackI managed to walk 2 miles a day while traveling.

I went to a convention in L.A. last weekend, and kept my pedometer close by. One thing that helped was that we were in a different hotel, one long block away from the venue. 4 years ago

catattackI've walked 3 solid days this week.

Yesterday had some killer hills, too. My legs are tired today, so no 3-mile walks, but I will still probably do some walking in The City this afternoon. 4 years ago

catattackI walked 4X last week.

I think that’s great! I define a “walk” as 2 or miles in a day. And I already have a walk scheduled for this afternoon. 4 years ago

catattackI gave my pedometer away...

today while on vacation to an old friend who appears to need it. I’m hoping it’ll spur her on to her own walking program.

I have another pedometer at home, so it’s no problem. 4 years ago

catattackWhile on vacation, I've walked about 2 miles a day.

Yesterday, I walked 3 miles. Some of that may have been due to the fact that I lost my car in the stadium parking lot… 4 years ago

catattackI haven't walked all week...

because of the rain. I’m meeting a friend at Lafayette Reservoir today, though, and if we can’t walk - more rain is expected - we’ll have lunch instead. 4 years ago

catattackA steady walking date.

I walked two days ago, 3 miles. I have a semi-steady appointment to walk at the Lafayette Reservoir every week with my friend George. He has to drive about 50 minutes to get there, which I really appreciate. The reservoir is very good, although it has hills. But it’s 3 miles, which is perfect. 4 years ago

catattackI am really on a roll.

Thanks to two friends, I have walked over 3 miles for the last three days in a row. (Which means I get to put 3 stars on the calendar!)

My legs are definitely tired. 4 years ago

catattackI walked around the lake yesterday.

I skipped today, but I’d like to go back and walk tomorrow. The weather is cooperating: nice, sunny, cool but not cold.

My legs were stiff, tired at the end. I’m not used to this. More the reason to get back to it. 4 years ago

catattackWe walked yesterday for 3 miles.

It was the warmest day it’s been in awhile, about 50 degrees. Still, I haven’t walked for about a month because of the cold, MY cold, travel, etc. It’s good to get back on the road (even though my leg muscles were very tired at the end). 4 years ago

catattackNobody walks in El Lay.

....goes the old song. But that wasn’t true of me.

While in L.A. visiting my friend, Pam, we took two walking tours suggested by a book she had. We walked 4 miles that day.

The 2nd day we went to the Norton Simon museum in Pasadena, a marvelous collection of paintings and sculpture. We walked over 2 miles while there.

And the last day, before my plane flight home, we walked to and from KJ’s, where we had breakfast. We walked 1.5 miles roundtrip.

And today, a friend called me: we’re going to meet up this afternoon to go walking by the marina. 4 years ago

catattackToo many things getting in the way of this.

My friend and I have declared that we will walk two times a week.

But because of appointments and travel, that’s difficult (as usual). But we will do this somehow. We have already touched base this morning, and after my handyman finishes with the projects I have lined up, I will call her and we will walk today. Tomorrow? That’s another story. 4 years ago

catattackI've gone back to walking...

putting a star on the calendar when I’ve walked. This week I’ve walked 3 times, which is great!

I hope I can keep up the trend. 4 years ago

catattackI met with a podiatrist today.

This is the first time I’ve seen one in 20 years. He says that, because I have diabetes, I should be seeing one every year, just to make sure my feet are okay.

He also said that walking for exercise is good for my feet, will keep circulation going, will keep them healthy! 4 years ago

catattackOnce a week...

is not enough. I need to pick up the pace.

Too many things are getting in the way, acting as excuses. I need to pare it all down. 4 years ago

catattackI have started walking again..

but I have to be cautious, I think.

Whenever I walk the 3-mile lake, my knee swells up a bit and I have to ice it. I need to give it a lot of rest in between walks.

I can see that the conventions I’ll be attending in July and August – which involve a lot of walking and standing – will be a challenge this year. 4 years ago

catattackI'm almost there.

My knee is at about 90+ percent at this point. I think in a couple of days I’ll be ready to walk pain-free, but I’m not going to attempt to walk my usual 3 miles until at least a week from now.

Stairs are the killer. 4 years ago

catattackI'm taking a break from this...

I’ve been not walking for a week. I have a bad knee, my first ever. I will take another week off and see how it goes. 4 years ago

catattack67 miles in May 2008!

I barely made my goal of 65 miles.

I stopped walking, really, after walking 14 miles at Disneyland in 2 days. But that was 2 weeks ago!

I will set another goal for 65 miles in June. Let the walking begin! 4 years ago

catattackI've walked 54 miles in May so far.

11 more to go. I have one more week to rack ‘em up! 5 years ago

catattackI've developed two sudden physical problems...

a large blister on one foot, and an ache in the opposite knee.

I’ve had a blister before, but never had a problem with my knees. I’m wondering how long this will last.

So, anyway, I won’t be walking around any lakes until I return from L.A. late next week. Hopefully I can pick it up then. 5 years ago

catattackI walked 56 miles in April!!!

And that’s not even counting the days when I didn’t fully record the activity because I didn’t have a pedometer.

So, my goal is to walk 65 miles in May. 5 years ago

catattackThe pedometer has elevated this to an obsession.

I walked 4 days in a row this week!

My legs, however, are very tired. So I’m taking the next day off.

I am also recording my pedometer readings from the day on my calendar. I still get a star if I walk more than 30 minutes at one time. 5 years ago
