Wave at someone because you think they're waving at you, only to find out that they are waving at someone behind you

This happened to me when I was nine. A senior was frantically waving out the window to me, so I waved back, slightly bemused. Then I turned, just in case I’d made some horrible mistake, and found one of my classmates waving back to her. I lowered my hand and pretended nothing had happened, though the senior in question always treated me with weird glances afterwards.

I always laugh at myself (not that it happens all that often), but then I pretend that I’m waving at the person behind them! Quick recovery and quick thinking! 5 years ago
