get a piggy bank

But it is not in the shape of a pig. =( It’s also see-through and it has a wide opening for easy access to the money inside. Not the properties I want in a piggy bank. The idea is out-of-sight-out-of-mind until you can’t fit a single dime in there anymore! Until I have my pig I will use this jar, which is pretty and blue and goes with my decor.

Piggy banks are so charming! =D Actually, I had a giant plastic one but it had the PNM logo on it that my grandpa gave to me, if I recall, so I thought it was sub-par as a child. These days I’dve just put a sticker on it. Ah well. It was perfect, too!

Can’t wait to start saving those nickles and dimes!

Though I had it visualized as a big beautiful pottery pig from Mexico, I have something different. My inlaws recently came to visit and said they had practically paid for their plane tickets from NY by saving change in one of those huge water jugs for a year. 700 plus dollars. Sooo… I now have one. Conveniently located in the living room where everyone can dump their change into it.

My goal is to get a nice fat handpainted pig when I go to Mexico next March. But! I did pick up a bank yesterday that I love. Its a fuschia virgin mary covered in glitter. I know, I know.. Fabulous. She will go on my nightstand. She wont hold a lot of money though, so I still need the pig.

it’s more like a piggy jar, but it looks so much better sitting on the shelf than anything i else i could find. i looked up four stores and not one has an actual piggy bank. that makes me sad, i want my kids to have a fat pink piggy on their shelf to collect there money in all there lives.
i guess i need to track down a place to get them huh?

maybe not an actual pig shaped bank with a tiny slot like the ones you get when your little but perhaps a posh jar or vase. to drop my coins in. i used to always pay with a dollar and save the change and add it to the jar. when i was younger i’d clean it out monthly ending up with somewhere between 10 and 30 dollars the longer i went or more i saved. so i thought… well what if i did that for like 6 months or a year. it would be a bit of time to sort out all of it but they have coin sorters now… personally i would get it out when i wanted to use it, i pretty jar or vase looks better setting out than one of those things.
and when i am got all the coins rolled walk them right down to the bank and deposit them in savings.
part of my goal in getting rid of debt is also to get rid of my debt card because i use it to easily. i want to free of plastic other than gift cards or my library card, use checks just for bills and have a set amount of cash for a week… that way i am less likely to spend what i have in the bank but it’s always there if something comes up. plus i feel better having cash because then i don’t have to think about when money will be deposited and if something will bounce. it’s impossible to over spend cash.
