travel the world for a year !

I’m going define this more precisely since another goal of mine is to do a world tour. This one year of tour will be for the soul expressed purpose of leisure and fun – with a fun group of friends…

I figured that the best way for me to do this was to find a job in another country, spend a few months traveling around in that area and then move on to another part of the world and repeat.

Right now I’m living in micronesia. I’m living in a US commonwealth called Saipan. This lets me work here and then travel on my time off through asia, the south pacific and Australia. After this I’ll be heading to Europe and trying to get a job there for a year or so. Then South America. I’m not meeting my goal of traveling the world in a year (its going to take me a few) but this one is in progress.

I would recommend this way to anyone who wants to leave the US on an extended trip.

This has always been one of my dreams, ever since I picked up a copy of “Vagabonding” by Potts. That book is a how-to guide for dropping everything and traveling. So far I’ve been to Europe for 2 months at a time, which was nice but not nearly long enough. Two years ago my wife and I went on a 9 week road trip across the US for our honeymoon. Seeing so much of my own country made me realize that there is so much I need to see here before casting outwards. So in 10 weeks we are selling all the stuff we don’t need, having some friends watch our cats, and taking off on another. I’ve found the most enjoyable road trips are the ones that you don’t plan. We both just finished grad programs (me law, her teaching) so we have the perfect opportunity now before our loans come due and while we have no jobs. I’m thinking we will either head North to Alaska (I’m in San Diego, California) or drive all the way across Canada to the East Coast.
But one day I want to be able to travel all across the world for a year. The biggest question is what would we do with our pets?
