I did this for awhile. Let me tell you who gets prosecuted?. The ones’s that personally piss-off some wannabe cop who couldn’t cut it. You see, we had to take over for the local “pound” because they were not feeding, watering, or cleaning up, much less separating animals. Now this was okay to the local government, until some good folks got a job there and took some secret videos to show the public. No one was actually prosecuted but the County Council was forced out of public outcry to allocate a minimal budget. After a year, we were bounced out and things sorta’ went back to the usual. Future workers were forced to sign “confidentiality” agreements OR face “breach of trust” prosecution if they “divulged” what went on there. Now they have a director who 1)Kills any animal without holding 2)Supported taking a rifle and shooting any animal he couldn’t catch (not the vicious rabid ones). The State SPCA said they’d prosecute. Alot of local people said if they saw someone shooting at a little dog, they’d claim it was their’s and shoot back.
Who got prosecuted then?. Mostly private animal resuers (don’t allow the term HOARDER to be used here, I don’t want to even go there). who had CRITICIZED the local pounds in the past. OR some lady who might have too many cats and dogs BUT the society rescuers don’t offer a dime of help to in the form of food, spay-neuter or anything.
People who are prosecuted in West Columbia SC?. Those who feed their cat on their own front porch. OR their cat walks across the alleyway, An elderly, terminally ill woman by the name of Sandra Broadway was PERSECUTED for NOT having her four cats on a LEASH or CAGED outside. Yet, there was a vicious dog in the neighborhood that bit atleast 5 people and yet NO serious attempt was made to catch it/really confront the owner. BUT poor ole Ms Broadway had her house circled atleast 10-times a day by Officer HorheBacher. Two witnesses saw Mizz H get out of her 10mpg City of West Columbia Truck after about the 5th lap of the block, and spook one of Sandra’s cats out of the yard JUST so she could write another ticket on the old lady. Folks in the neighborhood started to complain, and systematcially, if they had pets, The Devine Mz H retailiated with some sort of “immeadiate order” to do this or that. Yea, real compassion. But the agenda here wasn’t to help any animal because any animal caught, was immeadliately killed at the run-down shelter near the airport. (didn’t even have a good bathroom for the attendant there). No, there were some folks on a nearby street who were working in tandem with real estate sheisters to run everyone of the older, lower-middle class residents off however they could. Breakins weren’t being prosecuted. Vandalism. But let you cat cross the road OR YOU even stoop to assist a stray animal?. NOPE 200 dollar fine!..One poor gal who took in a single outdoor cat, was threated by the Devine Mizz H with a 1000 dollar fine IF she contined to feed the cat. When the gal offered to take it in, Mizz H threated to fine where for, now get this, “Assistang a Ferral or Stray Animal”. When AlleyCat Allies tried to talk to West Columbia, about Spay-Neuter release, it was declared ILLEGAL. Can YOU believe a POUND/a City declaring spay-neuter ILLEGAL?. They also put into effect STRONG animal/pet limits because they had already lost several battles in the past with FOSTER Parents to the local private agency. Individuals were charged with “Animal Abandonment” if they merely got the ole neighborhood cat fixed and let it go back out.
These people were in the truest sense “Neighborhood Nazis” and Mizz H was the SS terroizing old ladies and lower middle class people.
AND you want to be someone like her eh?.
I like how Newberry County< SC does it. They actually offer vouchers and medical HELP to those folks that are trying. Miss Dana does her job and results COOPERATING with the public works. Did I see that last night in “Animal Cops” Phoenix?. Nope. I saw some drama queen calling in her supervisor to publicly humiliate some woman who was doing her BEST. Did they come by to help?. OR did they just come by to confiscate?. One or two animals had some skin problems? One cat had a bad eye she’d just gotten. She had veternary appointments BUT did the local POUND bring her a bag of their DONATED to them food?. Did they try to put her in touch with a local private group?. Did they offer to come by and see what she’d gotten and take the bad ones off her hands to get treatment?. NO, she was the FREAKIN’ EASY target to PUSH the ANTI-PRIVATE/GOVERNMENT knows best mentality..
Animal Cops don’t get it about spay-neuter release. They don’t get it about private organizations. They don’t get it about DUE PROCESS.
They don’t get it because PRIVATE Inititiatives are perceived as a threat to their JOB SECURIY. I did it. I am now fighting to change that!..Too damn many psychos in the so-called “Animal Control Biz” that itch to put that “white cross” meaning “KILL EM” on the back of your pet.
AND I know of atleast two instances that happened to me, where I wen to rescue animals that had been taken away from a men’s shelter (Some pissed-off cat hating bitch in the neighborhood didn’t like cats so turned this homeless shlter in on the felines). Two “didn’t make it” I was told. They were “sick”. Come to find out by inside sources, white crosses were either mistakenly OR on purpose put on these two poor cats.
They’re offense?. They lived outside and some NeighborHood Nazi wanted them dead@!!...AND your and my tax dollars paid to have it done..

I knew this one guy that actually smiled after he’d done his turn “killin’” that day. He got “off” on doing the deed to something that couldn’t fight back.
I remember a gal at the DESK of the Columbia City Pound publicly saying “That little “shit” (kitten) bit me I wanna DO IT myself”.
I stopped the procedure temporarily by confronting the guy who brought in the mama and kittens in a box he’d carried 30 miles or so IN The trunk of his car, in JULY…The pound wanted to call the cops on ME for “interfering” BUT I beat them to the punch with the SPCA next door, and the cat and her kittens were turned over to them.
It’s pretty bad when the SPCA and the POUND are sworn enemies and the SPCA could spend all day citing the City for violations isn’t it?.
Greenville, SC did it right. They listened to the citizenry and let the SPCA take over from their draconian animal control.
How about this?. Spartanburg fiend a woman “a million dollars” for having too many animals. She was a private shelter (a real 501C3 Charity) that had had words with Spartanburg Counties Dog Catchers in the past. They came to get her. Shut down her shelter in town. THEH came after her at her home in Enoree, SC. Trumped up charge of “odor” (ever been around a POUND before?. It’s pretty sickening BUT heh, it’s the government don’t look). They got her for having 10 animals “over the limit” (which is pretty non-specific). Her animals were all confiscated, put in cardboard boxes (Not the carry crate style), and then KILLED. She was fined a million dollars. Needless to say, she had a lawyer volunteer to not only defend her against due process, illegal search and seizure, BUT to turn the tables on Spartanburg County and SUE them in return!.
Way to go GIRL!. Too bad for the animals though?. I guess “killing them” was “freeing them” OR just a conveneient way to deal with the problem?. Or worse, was it because some Dog Catcher digs having the socalled “GOD complex”?

How many times did I see some pissed-off Dog Catcher kick a caged animal so they’d growl or hiss so they could call them ” Vicious”. The so-called ACO could’ve just had a big argument with the owner of the confiscated animal. THEH, the animal was killed on-the-spot…The Dog Catcher, NOT a Veternarian made the call. .No waiting period. The people’s PETS were killed. You ever seen that done eh?. If they’re lucky they’re given cadamine, if not, then they’re still thrown in a box with a bunch of other screaming animals, and gassed. Sometimes, it takes 4, 5 times to finally get em’. and theh sometimes they wake up right before you put them in the oven. YEA< they burn them to death. The old ladies cat who didn’t have a tag on it from down the street, or some kid’s dog that got out of the yard too many times. Wasn’t vicious, just a wanderer. By their own admission, nearly 20 thousand animals are killed in Columbia every year. AND some that are resuced, have to be taken for espensive vet treatments do to transmitted diseases in close proximity….
So, you want to go into the KILL room, grab a cat with the KILL STICK around the NECK, then shoot it in the heat with cadamine?. If it was a busy day, no time to check if they’re really, completely dead either. Throw them in the pile. The soon to be FIVE TON pile of former pets taken to the ovens every Monday.

There’s a pound in Fairfield County, SC that to this day has NOT been shut down and they are attrocious. An individual saw 15 cats stuffed in one cage, some were already dead, most were dying. The ACO was only concerned with whether someone adopting a dog MUST get their rabies vacination there ($$$)...
There are too many wannabe cops and when I see Animal Planet, I see them beating up on a n old lady in a wheel chair, acting the drama queen, while what most of what they do compassion wise is in front of the camera. How many cats and dogs are still being gassed (multiple times) some are still being DROWNED,,
What I’d like to see is some control as in DUE process laid on the doorsteps of every city/county municipality in this land. Not all, but most pounds hold you the private person as 1)A cash cow to usurp “permission as in license” money out of 2)Any private organization as a threat to their control and a “watchdog” to their operations.
Instituitoional cruelty is something you all need to go after first. Columbia, SC kills more animals for license violations as “surplus”. BUT ask them to come out and rescue a dog that is entangled in wire while they’re being paid on-call time, and NOPE, they won’t do it, even if a REAL police officer (you know, the ones that actually MADE the GRADE to be REAL COPS?) calls the on-call number. A 5 ton dumpload of good animals are taken to the ovens (or bagged and sold to college laborotories) EVERY MONDAY morning. Cameras are ofcourse prohibited.
Do you want to do justice for the animal, or just get people?. If you’re the later, then you’re in the same league as Dennis Riddick, the BTK Killer who couldn’t cut it as a cop, BUT made it “great” as the Ordinance Officer. If you want to go in and clean up the internal operations, be prepared to meet some of the most low-down, mentally ill people in the bizness..
Remember, you are basically still JUST, the Dog Catcher and this is STILL AMERICA and there’s a thing called DO PROECESS. Too many pounds have bought into the Asiloma Accord passed clandestinly a few years back that basically sez “Government and ONLY government knows best” Privateers are just “interference that needs to be dealt with”.
As Marley, leader of the Columbia City Pound once called us, “Bunny Huggers”. Yea, and YOU want to go get people eh?. Go get a REAL COP, go to a judge, and get a warrant. Otherwise, I suggest your interloping is just the same as illegal search and seizure and why the SECOND AMDENDMENT was written.
