I am teaching my son Gregory to speak German, and we sing German songs all the time. I bought him the Muzzy series from the BBC and we watch it every day. His favorite is the Love song with Bob and Sylvia.
How to sing a song in another language
How I did it: I've always had some furin music in my repertoire (my parents never limited themselves to this continent, even throughout my childhood), but my faves are a couple of Puccini ones ("O mio babbino caro" and "Chi il bel sogno di Doretta" fight over first place), Mozart's "Ach ich fuhls" and that one Vivaldi wrote for his girlie (though I don't *exactly* consider Latin a foreign language). Here is the level of my nerdosity: I printed out the lyrics and had 'em on the steering wheel as I drove the 30-plus-minute commute from Pleasanton to Lovermore every day. I blasted Kiri, or whoever was singing, and sang along, checking the words occasionally if we didn't match.
Lessons & tips: Just sing, sing, sing, and the words will stick!
