Hazelnutnut is a romantic tree hugging self knower.
It’s in my lease that we’re not supposed to practice musical instruments in my apartment complex.
I have been playing flute for about 10 years now. It was truly a passion for me growing up. When I got into high school, my band teacher instantly judged me and decided to not give me a chance when it came to class. I was one of the 1st chair flutes in 9th grade and from then on, I was with the 2nd chair flutes for my high school career. It really brought me down because I knew I had some minor problems, but there was no reason to put me in a lower section because he did not like me.
I want to go to college to play flute. And I need to work on my techniques and such over the next year and a half.
Problem: I just got braces and I don’t know how well that will go trying to play flute. Especially the vibration from the flute to my braces….not fun. Wish me luck!
I found more than a quartet worth of lapsed flute players in my neighborhood. One found a four part song set and we practiced each week for a month, culminating in a performance before a hundred or more people at a neighborhood picnic this month. I just played, and kept up with my quartet, but had no idea how it went until the audience was applauding and cheering! Keep up with your goals, and the answer will come to you.
even my teacher said so! he says i have great articulation and beautiful tone. he also said something about not practicing too much. i only have 1+1/2 weeks before registering for the ensemble at the community college.
do you ever find some days you just plain stink and others you play blissfully perfect?
I want to be able to teach one day. I just passed the departemental exam a month ago.I played “Tityre” of Roussel which is contemporary music and a Romance of Sain-Saens. I had the bad luck to try the year they had decided to highen the level because it had been to easy the last years, so it was pretty tough. The pianist was really really great though & I loved playing with a professional accompanist, even if I had failed the exam I woulnd’t have regretted it because of that. This means I can now enter the Conservatoire, and I should normally be able to teach in 4 or 5 years (third part of the exam)... That’s why I must keep on playing !
i have a nice flute, but too bad it got a little banged up during marching band season and football season. ahh.
i need to learn to double-tongue. badlyy. but i guess that would mean actuallyy practicing everyy dayy instead of making up lame excuses to leave myy flute in the band room.
hmph.
I have not played the flute in many many years, but I recently tuned it up to motivate myself to practice. So far I have not begun, I have to relearn all the notes!

Stasha asks,
“I play in an 8th grade band and I'm last chair. I don't know how to get the same nice tone everyone else does. So please can someone tell me how?”
