I’ve been in Boston since 2001!!! I picked Boston as my destination for college without having ever visited the STATE! I just new I wanted to come here and I had to make it happen.
Now, 7 years later, the only thing I can think is “what’s next”? I should do it now while I’m childless, unmarried and able. Right? There’ll never be a better time for change than right now. It’s probably the BF of 5 years that keeps me here—but he’ll come with me if we’re meant to be right?
My lease is up in Aug. and I really don’t want to renew….
Leaving Boston was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. Even better would be forgetting I’d ever been there. Boston has a lot of great features (solid public transportation system, interesting museums, history, variety, parks, and so on) but it’s the most segregated and alienating place I’ve ever lived.
To be unreasonably fair, I’ve been told that Boston can be a wonderful place to live if everyone in your family has grown up there for several generations back, or you fit exactly into one of its segregated communities. One of my informants says the African American community is particularly warm—to other African Americans.
