I think I’ll do this one again. I have an active band and some songs already in the pipeline so it might not take another two-plus years to reach my goal.

I started this song in 1999 and hadn’t finished it until today. It might work with my present band, It’s not about death exactly, but about remembrance.
Another folksy tune for the band, this time about an epic life and comfortable death. My personal mission is to make every song that I write for this band about death or at least have some death in it.
I wrote this for the band I joined last fall. It sounds folky, like from the early 20th century. We played it together for the first time on Sunday and the practice recording sounds good.
On a warm spring april day,
in nineteen sixty one,
a lady and her burger man,
they had a little son.
He grew to be a smart young lad,
He grew up to be strong.
He grew into a handsome lad,
but they tol’ im he didn’t belong.
It’s dark winter,
and I’ve got the blues.
It’s dark cold cold winter
an’ I’ve got the Jerusalem blues.
(Work in progress)

I’m outside standing in the dark.
am by myself outstanding in my field,
I’m so large that all things must yield!
I’m pissin in my yard,
pissin’ in the dark.
Stand clear baby,
ya just might catch a spark!
Every day,
Every day,
I have the blues.
But every day,
EVERY day,
I get new clues.
New clues to go by,
New clues to guide me.
New clues all over,
even inside me.
Every day,
EVERY day,
Every motha blessed day,
I have the blues.
But every day,
and every night,
I got YOU, babe,
in my centre sight.
Every night and every day,
I pray that we might some day,
be together, be as one.
Every day,
and every night,
I hold your image
in my sight.

This goal should really be write 10 MORE songs. Just to remind myself the ones I’m working on are:
Luxemburg ‘56
Jenny Upside Down
Amsterdam
Paperwhite
Damascus
Father Figures
Spy Movie (with you)
And I honestly won’t be satisfied with myself until I have recorded a demo version of these tracks, probably with GarageBand.
They’re all in various stages of completion from scribbled notes all the way to things I could sing for you all the way through.
Since I left the country band, I’ve switched gears in my song writing. Now I’m writing funny love songs for a stage show that my wife and I are developing.
This one has a groovy, droning, 60s vibe.
