Sonja is thinking about her goals.
My first class is on September 17… can’t wait
won’t help me much here, as the local language is called Kannada (pronounced like Canada said really fast). But I love it, it’s so poetic, and my Arabic helps alot with the vocabulary.
And I have a tattoo of my name in Hindi on my arm. I should at least be able to read it properly.
Hehe.
And it’s a sexy way to talk lovey dovey stuff with my woman. Meri Jaan…meri dil…
Meow.

I have bought Teach Yourself Beginner’s Hindi, with audio (audio is important, as I am not living in India).
For the moment I have fulfilled the very first step, which is learning the alphabet. It is has been relatively easy. I still struggle sometimes to tell the difference between the different “d” and “t” sounds, and from time to time I find new consonant pairs I did not know previously. But I think I have already learnt the basics.
Now I have to keep working.
Using Doors, ispeakhindi and various other sites I’m doing well, I can already solve basic word puzzles and read a few basic words in devanagari. My boyfriend is proud.
I would really like to speak Hindi. After seeing a controversial movie called water I thought it would be great to learn. It is a beautiful sounding language and it would help on my resume.
I’m taking online Hindi classes at Edufire, dabbling with the free Livemocha resources (not the best, but they’re free and chat with native speakers is free) and using a bunch of different websites and books. I don’t practice as much as I’d like to, but the weekly online classes at Edufire keep me on track. Every week I understand more and more of what they are singing and saying on Namaste America and in Hindi movies. Cool!
cgw33 is planning.
I’ve begun this project well. Practicing at least an hour a day, every day.
I’m a little nervous about the outcome of this project, since my years of German never really paid off with fluency. But I’m hoping that actually learning on my own will be more productive. I’m certainly more motivated than I was in high school.
