obviously, the critical aspect of non-invasiveness is the means whereby the horizontal supports are attached to the tree.
ropes? steel cables? are big bolts really harmful to the tree? i don’t understand why there are no answers for this subject. or do i not understand how this 43things thingy works?

About 20 minutes north of Barrie, on the Camp Wildman site near the lake up there, we have an organized LARP – Live Action Role Play- where we create and play a fictional character, go camping in the woods for one weekend a month, and take part in padded weapon combat in a medieval fantasy setting. We are SHADOWREALMS
Having recently rented the Camp Wildman site for our use, we are beginning construction plans for cabins, palisades, a hedge-maze, and yes, at least one large treehouse.
Who would have thought there would be so much beauraucracy surrounding the building of a simple treehouse, but there is … not only do we have to get an arborist out to make an assessment and tell us which trees to use, we also need to get a structural engineer on board to design the plans for us. All of this is to cover us for insurance purposes, and to make sure our treehouse will be able to withstand years of weather, the trees’ natural growth, and the stress of weightbearing.
We have gotten some pretty useful links so far, but if any of you have any actual experience building a large treehouse or fort to NA building specifications, I’d really appreciate any input you might have in doing this without TOO much expense and hassle.
email me at mother_bast@hotmail.com if you have info you’d like to share regarding this project. Serious msgs only please.

i will not damage the tree; my construction will not even touch the tree, but the house will be up on stilts surrounded by several trees
