I had an audition for “Strangers on a Train.” I thought the audition went well, but I’m still waiting to hear back from the director. My friend Andrew got cast and he heard back on Thursday… I’m thinking it’s not looking very good for me! :(

How I did it: I found out about the audition on my community theatre's website. I went and got a copy of the script and read it to prepare, since the audition was going to be readings from the script. I also did some research on the play to see if I could find out any interesting or pertinent information that might help me in my audition. Now I just have to wait to find out if I get a part! How I did it: I met with the owner, the director, 2 cast members, the cat, and the ghost. We laughed and laughed. It was a great way to spend the evening. Read how I did it…

For my school’s play, “The French Have a Word for it.” I tried out for Lucienne and Armandine.
I’ve auditioned for Bonnie in “Anything Goes” last spring and got a role as one of the angels. Very fun but I’d like a bigger role.
I heard one of the auditioners say as I walked out the room that she liked me and that I was cute. I didn’t mess up any of my line. Results come out Tuesday. All I can do is wait and cross my fingers…
It’s next Tuesday, for Lady Windermere’s Fan. So excited!
I auditioned for “Dark of the Moon” last Sunday and I got cast! It’s a small part, only two solo lines, but hey, at least I’m in! :) Now I know I can do it!

I got a call from the director yesterday, saying that she had an “unorthodox proposition” for me, and when I called her back, she was offering me a part!
Not the part I was auditioning for, though, which made me a little sad. But I heard her out, and she said she wanted to split one of the parts in two – the Bellhop – and give it to me and my friend who had also auditioned for that part. It’s an interesting creative decision: we’re two very different guys in size, shape, and personality, and I think that will help with some of the physical comedy. Overall, splitting the part in two is going to be really interesting.
I told her that if he was all right with that, I was too, and I’m really looking forward to the play. I’m just a little disappointed I didn’t get the part I originally wanted, but knowing who did end up getting that part, I completely understand the casting choice. And, god forbid if anything happens to him, I may be able to take that part. So, overall, a qualified success!

So I had my audition last night; they were running a little behind, so I had plenty of extra time to be nervous and mutter “What the hell am I doing here?” under my breath. But finally, the time came. There were six of us in the audition, three guys and three girls—and all three guys came out for the same part. Great. Each of us agreed to read another part to help out during the auditions, and actually, I had more fun reading the other part than the one I’d signed up for (due to not being nearly as nervous the second time around).
The singing went just fine; I’m not operatic, but I hit the notes solidly and pronounced the words correctly (which is, sadly, more than I can say for the other guys who auditioned with me). I’m not saying I have it sewn up, but if it comes down to singing, at least in that crew, I have a good chance. Realistically, though, this is a play, so it’s acting first, singing second.
As we were leaving, the director and assistants said that they might be making callbacks on the weekend, and that they would be calling everyone on Sunday. I told them I might be away from my home phone on Saturday, but if they wanted, I could leave my cell number, and they said “Yes, do that” moderately enthusiastically. I really hope I get a callback; I think I would do a much better job reading another scene now that my first one is over with. But I guess we’ll see soon enough…

After one of my Fringe concerts a couple of weeks ago, a theatre acquaintance of mine came up to me and said, “You need to audition for me.”
Huh? What?
“Lend Me A Tenor. Auditions are in September. Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the details.”
A week later, there it was in my inbox. Suggestions on who to audition for, the .pdf of the script, plus suggestions on what songs to prepare for the audition (I need to sing 16 bars of a classical piece; again, classical music is not my forte). I’m nervous, of course, about preparing all this, and I don’t like rejection much, so there’s that holding me back. But with my slightly-more-than-full-time job, would I even be able to make all the necessary rehearsals? I talked it over with my wife and an actor friend of mine, and they said I should just audition anyway, and deal with scheduling when I know whether they’re offering me the part. And that makes sense.
So I think I’m going to give it a shot. I’ve only ever auditioned for a play once before, in High School, and that…well, let’s just say I got cast, but not in the part I wanted. (Four lines. Seriously. I quit another theater group to audition for that part, and I got four. Lines. But that was a long time ago, let’s not be bitter…)
It’s community theater, all non-professionals, which is good for me because my acting is fairly amateurish. But hey, the director specifically asked for me to audition. I can do at least that much.
I feel too old. I am 18. And have never auditioned for a play except when I was younger (like 5 or 6). I cant sing or dance (atleast Ive never tried). But this is something I have always secretly wanted to do.
Hmmm
I’m auditioning for “Stepping Out” on March 8. Picked up a copy of the script today to prepare. Wish me luck! (or break a leg, whatever is appropriate!)
EDIT: Had the audition, didn’t go so hot, didn’t get cast. Oh well. Try, try again.
KaTYbugg europe was amazing!
We have auditions at my school coming up! We have to do a cold reading and I’m super nervous. This is my first time auditioning at this school.
