rhinobrink has a new job in a new country

Woops we have an issue 12 months ago

The Sydney marathon date is fast approaching to complete my second marathon, and my already abridged training schedule has taken another turn for the worse. In the last month I’ve contracted a pretty gross infection of the windpipe. I thought it was just the cough that everyone else seemed to be suffering from at the moment.

I “ran” the Gold Coast half marathon last Sunday, which went worse than terribly. In hindsight, it’s probably on account of my body not being well.

I’ll write this week off training, but I don’t think I can afford any more hiccups before Syndonee or I just won’t be able to run.
My training partner seems to be going from strength to strength though. No fair!

A snag is hit 13 months ago

Good news is my wife is pregnant with our second son. Bad news for 2008 marathon plans is she’s due on October 2, which is 1.5 weeks after my planned trip to Sydney to run the marathon.

I’ve flagged the issue with my running partner. I’ll continue training and hope it just works out in the end.

Our first son was 7 weeks premature, so who knows what’ll happen ..

42.2km is a great test of endurance and dedication.

I’ve run one marathon to date on 01 July 2007, but I’d really like to be in a position to do this each and every year.

    Did you do it?

great run yesterday.. 2 years ago

i had a great run yesterday-i did some sprint hill training-ran up a 2 mile 45 degree incline then banked over to the cliffs-ran down 100 steps to the beach, then ran the 2 miles in a sprint during low tide….felt really good-almost jumped in the ocean aftarwards!

    Starting up... 2 years ago

Doing a lot of cross training right now while i build up my knees and a reserve of 3-4 miles a day with 5 mile long runs to start….I haven’t decided which marathon i want to do yet, so right now i am getting ready for when i do start my 1st official week of training. I figure it is best to just get out there and start moving again-so i run on Mon Wed and Fri 3-4 miles with a long run on Sat amd I rock climb Tue and Fri and bike to work and back M-F…..like i said a lot of x training right now, but it feels good-

Getting in training again... 2 years ago

So my last marathon was 2 years ago in San Francisco and I did a 1/2 last year in Santa Barbara. I think it is high time for a full this year so i have to get back in the saddle again. Being a former ski instructor for 10 years, my knees have always given me reason to be cautious. I didn’t have any problems with them in my past races, but recently the weather and my training again has inflamed them a bit. I figure right now the best thing to do until all cartalidge and blood cells are back in tip top shape is to do 35-50 minute runs aka a slow 4-5 miles every other day. I counter it with rock climbing and biking on the opposite days, and i have 1 full day off. I am really bad at icing my knees though, and a specialist told me yesterday that every time we don’t ice the inflamation actually eats away at the tendons, cartilidge, and blood cells…surprised the hell out of me! Who knew that could happen! I thought that stretching would be enough, but that alone is just as bad as doing nothing, so guess i am icing every night. I am shooting for a marathon in Jan, or Feb possibly-although the niagra falls marathon looks like a blast-could you imaging crossing the canadian border with thousands of people just holding your passport going “sorry! can’t stop, racing here!!!”

first exposure to the marathon in years. It definitely motivated me. Need to act on this. Need to pick a marathon (fall 2007), start training and sign up with Lukes in Spring

I did 3 marathons and 3 ultra martahons…then I broke my bones and got fat.
