go to the theater

will go to the theater in april :) looking forward to!

For 2007/2008 I bought season tickets to the Village Theater and for 2008, it’s season tickets for the Intiman. The first show of the season was The Diary of Anne Frank with Lucy DeVito as Anne.

All The Great Books (Abridged). The premise is that the audience is a remedial high school lit class, and the actors are the teachers. So they were in a furious race to cover as many of the great books of western literature as they could in hilariously reenacted plots, spoofs and gags. The ending was a rapid-fire rundown of one-line book synopses, like:

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest: Sanity’s overrated.
Harry Potter: Just overrated.
Alice in Wonderland: Don’t do drugs.
On the Road: Do drugs.

Anyway, great fun for anybody who knows a little or a lot about literature. You wouldn’t have to have read all the books to get the hundred-mile-per-hour references, but it would help to at least know what they’re about.

And apparently, there are also Shakespeare Abridged, The Bible Abridged and America Abridged!

This time I really am going. Have babysitter, have tickets, have date. All The Great Books Abridged. Sounds like it will be a whirlwind trip through literary history.
