book club 10 months ago

I am trying to organize a book club with some friends. I think this will be good motivation for reading more, and I will also have an excuse to see my friends more often.

a great start 10 months ago

Just finished 3 books in 2 months, and although one was not fiction, I will throw it into that category because reading the book did not help me acheive another goal in life.
It really has to do with finding the right books…
I was given a book by Andrea Camilleri, The Snack Thief and have gone onto read The Smell of the Night.
I like his righting style, they are mysteries, but with an interest in people. The setting in Sicily also helps me enjoy and appreciate the opportunity of living in a country that doesn’t always make sense.

Easy Reads: any stories (short) by Alice Munro.... 22 months ago

She is a remarkable writer. Pieces apart who people are. Great for women (we of course invented psychology ;) to understand each other, ourselves, etc.).

CONS:
She seems to write a lot about affairs… a bit discouraging… and it gets old.

...I hadn't read a fiction book (except shorts) for something like 7 years until reading Suite Francaise 22 months ago

Good book. I would recommend it.
Although I have to say that it is SUCH a pain reading the first three chapters… my mind wanders and I think BORING!! The Hobbit – great example.

Starting reading The Zahir by Paulo Coehlo.

2 weeks after NaNoWriMo 2007 ends... 23 months ago

I decided that I want to start reading more fiction after I finished writing my NaNoWriMo novel in 2007. It was hard to write the novel, and I figured that reading more fiction would really help my writing skills.

Today is December 16, and so far I have read and finished Fight Club and Bridget Jones’s Diary. I enjoyed both, especially the latter, and it also is related to the novel I wrote, so I think it would be useful to refer back to it. I also started reading the Devil Wears Prada, but found it to be totally awful and not well-written at all.

Some more books on the list: Catch-22, Artemis Fowl, Pride and Prejudice.

I’ve read:

Terry Pratchett: Feet Of Clay, Witches Abroad, The Wyrd Sisters and Lords & Ladies. I really liked all the books. They made me laugh and cry! Not sure what I’m gonna read next!

Wandering – Hermann Hesse

Men At Arms - Finished 2 years ago

Really great book…humourous and had me laughing a lot! I can’t wait for the next one….but I might have to look around on amazon…or maybe the library…otherwise I might end up spending more than I really should :)

Light hearted, clever and hilarious. I so often get hung up on reading “good literature” and I forget that some of the most funny stories are the pop fiction ones.
