have $5000 savings in the bank

I made an impulse buy, though it will be useful, so that put me back around 1K and after my next loan payment I’ll be below that. I need to convince myself that I don’t need anything else, as far as major purchases. I should definitely hit that 5K mark before July.

I moved out to California after graduating and found a job this past August. I make a low wage for a recent grad in the quasi-tech sector, but it’s still enough to have savings. I live pretty frugal outside of semi-regular $100+ amazon purchases. I’ve never had savings, though, and since I’m on my own I need to put money away in case something happens. I figure if I have $5000 in savings, I can sustain myself in the area for a few months if ever I need to get back on my feet. I have a little over a grand right now and no more major purchases to make (aside from paying off college loans). I’m aiming to achieve this by the end of June.

but by the end of the year it will either go to a deposit on a townhouse, or a masters course in new york (depending on whether i get into the masters course I applied for).

I have saved up about $1000 and yesterday I got by tax bill – you guessed it $1000 is owed!!!!
