Try and understand Ebay--I for the life of me can't grasp the concept.

I look at the stuff on Ebay and wonder “How do I go about making an offer and what do I do if someone out bids me?” Yeeeeeesh. Do I have to watch my “stuff” all the time? Is it me or am I just inept and afraid of modern conveniences?
