I turned Turiel on to Epictetus. Gold star for me! :)
There are things that are in your control, and things that are not.
Your responsibility lies with the things that are within your control, such as your judgements (and the actions based upon those judgements).
Everything out of your control is an indifferent to you.
There are dispreferred indifferents, such as sickness, crime, accidents, etc.
There are also preferred indifferents such as family, comfort, Epictetus’ Discourses, etc.
The Discourses are a coursebook in the art of living. Profound wisdom made even more satisfying by its sometimes irascible delivery. :)
