jam

im a bassist, and i love jamming with my friends, but i have problems fitting in with the styles they play. i mainly play funk, blues, and smooth jazz stuff, but they play metal and the heavier side of jazz. we managed to get a funk/metal jam going, and it sounded pretty sweet. can i get any other suggestions for combinations or tips for playing in their genres?

I try and play a least once a week, typicaly on a Wednesday night with various friends. Not only does it make the creative juices flow, it realy helps you develop your ear and sense of timing. And you meet and make good friends from all over the world. The Acoustic scene is best so that everybody has similar volume, The only problem is work, it just gets in the way!

I started playing the drums (badly) about 2 years ago. My dad was a drummer and he gave me his 2 kits (an old Rogers jazz kit and a sweet Ludwig Vistalite kit – just like John Bonham!).

I took lessons for a while, but stopped when my daughter was born. I still go down and pound on them occasionally, but what I really want to do is jam with some people.

I’m not at all good, but I can lay down a decent beat. I think jamming with a bass and guitar (or even just one of those) would be a blast.
