I’ve been trying for years now to knit myself a tallit (prayer shawl) that I like. My requirements are that it not be hot, that it be of some material such that it isn’t a disaster if I sweat in it, and that it NOT look too “scarfy.” Some early attempts did look like scarves…. one looked more like a rug. None felt right to me, so I never put tzitzit (ritual fringes) on them.
Now I think I’m onto something. I’m knitting a nice blue cotton hand-dyed yarn in the Old Shale lace pattern, and gradually narrowing it towards the center (where my neck will be) by knitting on smaller and smaller needles. WHen I pass the halfway point, I’ll start increasing needle size again. VERY happy with the results so far (about a foot long) and well, we’ll see.
Anyhow, a nice little private project going nicely.

I hate it when I finish a knitting project and am unhappy with the results!
I just finished knitting a tallit in an offwhite silk/wool blend and it seems lifeless.
I’ll let it sit awhile and see if it grows on me or calls out for something other than ripping….

It’s an over-amped rainbow, with long vertical stripes. Purple-neonlime-yellow-red-orange-skyblue-violet.
No idea who’s going to get it. But it’s fun.

I finished the blanket that I started on the train trip last fall. It’s a beautiful multicolored wool blanket, just the right size to keep on the couch to snuggle under when watching movies or taking a nap!
I still have to weave in the loose ends and block it, but the knitting part is DONE. It was a fun one, and I was a little sad to finish it.

Cat and I were home watching movies, and I started a little scarf in lace-weight Icelandic yarn, in an “Old Shale” pattern. I have something larger in mind eventually, but I wanted to see if I could get into “automatic” on this pattern. Jury’s still out, but the scarf is going to be very pretty. When I get a chance, I’ll post a photo.

Heh, heh...

I have picked out my next Hat Victim. A young friend told me she “loves hats!”
Better yet, she likes COLOR, not like those pokey boys that always want black or brown.
Heh!

I’ve rediscovered knitting, and am having a GRAND time! Knitted a too-small hat that has to be redone (oh, the pain! NOT!) and am working on one big throw for myself and a Project Linus blanket. The throw for myself is in a yummy yarn, but the hat has to be in superwash wool (it’s for my nearly-26-yr-old son who will throw it in the washer regardless) and of course the Project Linus is dreadful acrylic (but a great color.)
I am so happy to find knitters! Can I be on the team? Please? Please?

Maybe I’ll get better at them someday, but for now I hate making socks. Knit, knit, frog, curse, knit, curse, frog, knit, knit. By the time I get one sock done I’m so exhausted and frustrated that I don’t pick up the needles again for a month. Oh well, this pair will get done eventually.
