I really actually do hate running. I’m thinking I’ll probably climb the Great Wall a great many times in my life, but I don’t know about the marathon. It’s not out of the question that one day I might get ambitious again and do it, but I can no longer say that it is a goal. I’ll take this one off my list.
I am giving up on this goal. It is stil something I want to do but not something that is feasible in the near future. I want to run another marathon this year, just something closer to home.
I am going to train for another marathon FOR SURE . My friend M wants to run one and wants me to join her. Not sure if it will be China though. Finances are as usual a huge factor. I am not crossing this off my list. Maybe it will turn out to be “run the half ” of the Great Wall marathon. Even this would be a challenge from what I have read about it. I find the website very inspiring, just looking at the pictures and reading the finishing times of some of the runners…WOW. If you want some running inspiration check it out.
I’ve joined a gym with a friend who wants to run the marathon with me, gathered a running buddy, and worked out how training will fit into my schedule both this coming semester and during the summer when I am visiting in the states. I’m about to go on my last trip of this winter break, and start training the day after I get back. I’ve never run a marathon before, but I used to run in high school. I don’t really like running now, but I think this will be motivation enough to get me back into it. The plan is to run one mile every morning during the first week, up it to 2 miles for the next couple weeks, and climb slowly after that. Aside from the morning run, I’ll go to the gym every day after dinner for stair climbing, weight lifting, and another run. I’ll probably take the weekends off, especially since I might be leaving China soonish and might need to get all the shopping and traveling in that I can in a short amount of time. But I think that’s OK. I don’t know much, but I’m pretty sure the body will need to rest on the weekends anyway.
I’ve got a little over a year to train. I’ll sign up for the race in 2008, and if I haven’t already made it to Beijing by that spring, the race will be my excuse to get over there!
I had my heart set on it…. my husband basically said, either our son goes to university in the fall or you run the marathon in May. I guess it isn’t in the cards this year, unless I win the lotto…..maybe I shuld start buying tickets.
I have a friend who wants to do this with me….... she will run the half and I will attempt to run the full. I hear that it killer, 3700 steps ! Wow ! Can you imagine ? It is in May so we would have five months to train…...I really want to do it, just need to rob a bank…... hmmm
I have run one marathon.. three years ago, the Vancouver Marathon. The Great wall of China marathon ” features ” four and a half kms of stairs to START ! Can you imagine ? Sounds so cool…..what a challenge !
