Yeah, so I knew that this was the career for me since I was 9 years old. Discouraged by my older, extremely practical sister because “its not marketable”. Here I am 11 years into a career (complete with master’s degree) and yet I still yearn to really do this. I have taken classes via the local college and have actually been in the field. I loved every minute of it. I am fiancially stuck and see no options at this point.

The Real Loss 2 years ago

I went to school to become an archaeologist, but only went for about a year and then stopped going. It was winter, i lived far away from school, and the roads were dangerous. I missed a lot of classes, got discouraged, gave up. Looking back, I wish I would have kept going. I wanted to be in the field more than anything, part of me still does. But I have Hubby now, and i love him so much. If i hadnt quit school, i would have never met him. and that would have been the real loss.

I’m a TA this summer at our field field school. It’s awesome, because I’m like a real archaeologist now.

So, I am slowly working on this goal, I am waiting the university (Laval, that’s in Quebec city, Canada) response. I have done 1 year in Montreal’s University in Anthropology and I love it but really I want to be an Archaeologist, I don’t know if it’ll work though, but I’ll do whatever is in my power to achieve it!

I worked in archaeology right after college, and I loved it. my close friends encouraged me to apply, but i didn’t have the confidence to do it. i’m in grad school now doing something different, but i think i’m studying the wrong thing. so, by next fall, when i’m almost done with my current program, i’m going to send in applications for fall 2007. i don’t care where i get in. i just want to get back into archaeology.

I participated in a mini-archaeological dig on my college campus. The area used to be farmland before the college was built. The final house to be demolished to make way for the school was owned by the Bittner family. We excavated and uncovered remains of the house foundation, in the area we believe to be the kitchen. We were able to find remnants of many things, including ceramic water pipe and many pieces of china and other household objects. It was a great experience, and I hope to be able to participate in other such digs in the future.
