I have been working for an internship in a bookstore in the city for two weeks and it has been absolutely wonderful. I just loved it.
Putting the books away, talking to customers and get to buy books cheaper. Those were the best two weeks I had this semester.
The people in the store also liked my work and so I tend to think about becoming a professional bookseller.
But first of all I’m going to study English Literature and then I’ll see what life will bring to me.

Hello, My name is Ane Caroline. I am a Brazilian College Student of English Language Teaching and Literature and I am going to be in London from March to December 2009 studying English as a Foreign Language. During this period I would like to work in a bookstore, because I love books and it would be a way to improve my English Skills.

It is actually for my boyfriend – he’s a history graduate and one of the cleverest people I know, doesn’t want to apply to all the usual banker / city / hungry for success jobs, just wants to be among all the lovely books, get on with all the nice customers, so if anyone knows of anyone with a lovely bookshop (be it a branch of waterstones or some tiny rambling independent affair) ... :)

sugarfig is doing everything she should've done all last month.
I worked in a bookstore in 2005. It was a downtown, locally owned, coffee shop/book store. I really loved it. I actually already had a full time job but needed some extra money and really love the inspiration working there gave me. I remember one day listening to some french electronica and watching it rain outside while I sipped on my perfectly customized latte and thinking I was in pure heaven.

This was an independent and unique bookstore. I loved working there and miss the customers.

It wasn’t a chain store, it was a private-owned store in a very touristy part of town. I worked there for two years and loved it. The only problem was the owner. He was a total jerk.
Sometimes I still miss working there.

I’ve found myself shelving again. This time around, I’m having more fun. The store is less the glorified yard sale that the previous one was. I am also four years older; I’ve read more books now, so I recognize more that come through! And I’m reading a lot again now. It’S MAD fun. I feel like the old me again, yet new and emerged.

I did want to own one, but I figure this is more reasonable. It has to be a nice book store – not a big chain with a cafe, and incorrectly attributed quotes painted on the wall (damn you, Dymocks Chatswood)

but it was worth it to help myself and the manager out and to experience “retail”.
