    the flea 6 months ago

Hell’s Kitchen flea market (39th & 9th Ave) where I bought a lovely Lark luggage vintage carry-on bag. Haggled for 10$ off the original price. Would like to learn more about this bag. (Lark was a company of Samsonite)

Thinking I might try to sell on eBay and see if I can turn it over for more.

Spent the afternoon at Joseph’s house drinking Greyhounds on his roof. And then had a small dinner with Hannah at Five Leaves (awesome food + service).

Walking from Brooklyn to NYC 6 months ago

Decided to walk over to Alphabet City to meet friends for brunch. To get there, I usually walk to the Bedford L and walk the 2 blocks to the cafe.

But instead, I opted to walk over the Williamsburg Bridge, considerably farther walk. Since I live in Greenpoint, I took the G to the Broadway stop and walked straight down Broadway over the bridge – just over 2 miles.

The bridge has a wide path for cyclists and pedestrians. And great views of the East River and Domino sugar factory. I would love to do this walk at night.

It’s a great way to get some one borough to another and I recommend you try it if you can. Plus it added some exercise to my day.

If you're trying to find a way back from Newark 7 months ago

HIGHLY recommend the Newark Liberty Express bus. Runs every 15min. Gets you to midtown in 30. Only 15$. Whoot.

Reading by the water... 7 months ago

Lovely reading spot on the water’s edge in Long Island City. Since I’ve been walking to my train transfer here, I’ve gotten the chance to explore. This park mixes industrial harbor finds (giant pulleys to take crates off ships) with grassy spots and deck chairs looking out into the water. Also—right next to the huge Pepsi Cola sign.

    BAM 7 months ago

Saw This American Life in a special live screening (they recorded at NYU) at the BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). It was awesome. And the BAM is a lovely venue for films (& music, though I haven’t attended the show) But I love that I actually did SOMETHING—not just go out and eat and get wasted. I want to get my friends to do more “things” and not just eat/drink every night. ANYWAY… Ira Glass was amazing. And the stories were delightful as usually.
Also, we had a quick dinner at Habana Outpost before. If you havent eaten there yet—go! go! go!

Drop Off Service 7 months ago

Didn’t get to St. Patrick’s yesterday. It was a busy day at work. Went for a beer at Drop Off Service in the LES. Met some friends there.
Usually, I would go home after a long day, but it was nice to meet people for some quick convo before going to bed.

Drop Off Service is a pretty mellow place. I’ve never seen it full and I always miss their happy hour. But I like that its chill and a good place to talk to people (and you can actually hear them).

UPDATE 04/15: No exploring yesterday. Stuck in the office until late. Tonight: celebrating a friend’s birthday. Hopefully we’ll try something new.

    walking around 7 months ago

Opted to walk to my subway transfer point in L.I.C. rather than taking the G.
Walked over the Pulaski bridge, enjoyed views of the city. Discovered there is an official urban hiking route in L.I.C.
And found a diner near the subway stop and had brunch before work.

Plan for today??? maybe I’ll visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral during lunch today.

I live in NYC now and grew up not that far out of the city, on Long Island, so I’ve done some of the usual NYC things (Times Square, Central Park, WTC, some museums, etc.), but not all. Lately, I feel like I just spend time in my neighborhood or, of course, the office.

Don’t know, what I should try to do next.
