The bus ride
I went to London when I was eighteen with my mom. She sat downstairs and I was up alone on the second deck. It was good. It felt foreign. I was lucky I was able to travel on the red double-decker bus that is so-London.
So accustomed to our local practice, we would usually just ring the bell and jump off where ever you or the bus driver both feel it is safe enough to stop. Thinking it was the same, we received buckets of muttering from the London bus driver for trying to just jump off the bus (assuming that he was going to stop when he was softly breaking around a corner to get to the bus stop) when we asked him where to get off to get to the mall!
Yeah, we were the uncivilised foreigners just making his day… He he he.. Luckily we were the only ones on board.
But I sure could use another ride to enrich the blood in my soul.

Sit upstairs right in the front seats. Me + my mom used to do this every day on the way back from school/work, get donuts from the shop and hop on the front top seats. Its just one of those things about my childhood i won’t ever forget. Must do this, it will be so full-circle.

You can get so much higher up on a double decker bus than on a normal one. Only suckers ride on buses with one level.

My freshman year of high school (2000-2001), I was in the marching band. We went to London to march in the New Years Day Parade, and our tour bus was a double-decker.
Instead of the typical “We are the back of the bus, the back of the bus, the back of the bus! We are the back of the bus, WHERE IS THE FRONT?” cheer, we did “We are the top of the bus, the top of the bus, the top of the bus! We are the top of the bus, WHERE IS THE BOTTOM?”
Fun! :D Not for the chaperones who were trying to sleep, but for us obnoxious high school students, it was the best thing ever!
