volunteer somewhere new each month, and get others involved!

I’ve picked the BC SPCA for my place of choice this month. Unfortunatly it’s not as simple as just strutting in there and doing some good. There is an application process with an interview and training and all that good stuff. Looks like I will be commiting to a long-term volunteer position here!

They want you to do at least 2 hours a week for 3 months. One of the things you can do is walk dogs or socialize cats. I think that it will be good for both the animals and my heart to spend two hours a week with those little guys. And I will be proud to help them prepare for a better life with a new family!

Since I probably won’t actually be volunteering there until next month at the earliest… I’ll have to find somewhere else for July!

I’m always happy to take suggestions on this. I live in the Vancouver area of BC. Let me know where a helping hand is needed… and I’d love to have people join me!

I went 2 days ago and donated blood for the 3rd time ever. It’s always such a positive experience for me… everyone there is SO friendly and professional. I feel safe and respected and valued (what more can I ask for?!)

I wasn’t able to get anyone involved this time, espeically because it was a last minute decision to go in after work. I did try to ask some of my coworkers to join me, but they are all scared! I’ll get them next time!

I arranged to take our group of Girl Guides, plus some parents, to sort food at the Food Bank.

This was very satisfying for all involved! Sorting food is fun and fast, and watching those boxes disappear is a great feeling. We sorted enough food to feed 480 people (in only 2 hours!)

I will definitely be going again to help out. Unfortunately, since they have to have someone there while you sort, they need 10 people to come as a goup. I’m going to try and get some people from my work involved.
