How to read "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman by moonweaver

"My second favorite book of all time."

How I did it: By reading whenever I could for about a year. I got through the first book more quickly than the others because I had listened to it in audio format a lot when I was younger and knew the plot.

The first book is my favorite, the second book my least favorite of the three (not that I don't like it) and the third book my second favorite.

The idea of deamons in wonderful. Also love all the characters. :-)

Lessons & tips: You might find it easier to listen to it narrated by the author with a full cast. I listened to that version of it millions of times when I was a little kid.

Resources: Bought a copy of the book at Mr. Paperbacks. That's about it.

    My bestmate from childhood adored them and introduced them to me. I was so excited to read them but they only had The Amber Spyglass on the shelves at school so I picked it up anyway. The result? I read the series completely backwards! It was still awesome. I refuse to see the movie. If you haven’t read these books, please do. I love them to bits!

    I was a bit disappointed with the second book. The third did wrap up the series well, but I definitely enjoyed the first book the most.

    These books were very interesting. I especially enjoyed the aspect of people from different worlds having visible parts of their souls, such as demons, deaths, etc. It was a very exciting adventure with likable characters. I would recommend these books to others. I haven’t seen the film, but I will soon.

    After the fuss over Golden Compass I thought step 1 would be to read the books so I knew what I was talking about.
    Unlike the people who are mouthing off without reading the books or seeing the movie.

    It’s worth reading. That said, I didn’t particularly enjoy it. And I have real trouble understanding why it gets classified as “steampunk”. Anyone care to defend that one for me? I just don’t get it.
