and throughout the day it’s all about the books! My daughter loves to read and I don’t know really why I put this goal down, maybe because I secretly knew I was already accomplishing this! At night time I read my daughter an average of 3 books, lately that isn’t enough and she takes one to bed with her, during the day she is often found turning the pages of her books and I am there talking with her about the pictures and stories. For us this is simple but it might not always be and then there is my new baby who might not have her love of books and then it will be more of a challenge. If that does happen I will have to put this back on.

I don’t have to really focus on this goal as my 19 month old nearly spends every waking moment sitting exploring books and asking “what’s this?”, regardless if she knows. Until you are nearly driven to distraction! I don’t usually get through the simple stories anymore though as she is less interested in the words/stories now and just enjoys exploring all the pictures and interacting together. Her Daddy finally had to hide the well worn Parents magazine that she became obsessive about and would constantly come up to him with the magazine and say “Up?” so she could sit in his lap turning pages together. I made him get it out though, it’s just too funny to resist!

So I watched this movie tonight and it made me Giddy, at least that’s how I would describe my watching experience. It also reminded me how much I loved reading and being read to growing up. Then I started anticipating the experience of reading to my own children and opening this whole new world to them and experiencing it through them. I am already reading to my eldest, who is 18 months old but as great as Dr.Suess is, it’s not the same as the adventures of C.S. Lewis. The only thing I am uncertain about is how I will handle it when I have to read those parts of the stories that will make her sad and how I wont spoil the experience for her by saying “it all works out the end!”... that is when it does.
