I can strum some chords and play a few songs but would like to learn to play well. Campfire well, that is!

downloaded the tabs for “major tom”. hopefully i’ll learn how to play it within a few months.
I pretty much start from scratch when I pick-up my guitar every year. I keep going back because I feel like I’ve grown as a person, calmer, and more focused… so, I might have more success.
Played 3 days in a row for about an hour +. Took the last two days off. Will Start again sunday.
I have a difficult time changing chords, C to G7… yikes!
Here is another buried dream, that is coming back from time to time: You can express yourself, play when you are sitting by a fire, combine words and music.
I learned to play classic guitar ten years ago – and forgot everything, but maybe it is coming back. The thought hits me about every two weeks, how great it would be to play the guitar and keep learning. I know, it is hard. Maybe I will restart it, when I am moving to a new flat – in two months.
I think I’m a regular now for worship. At least once a month, I’m helping out with the program. The routine has allowed me to practice new songs (Heart of worship, Amazing Love, etc…) and strumming patterns. How about more complicated stuff? ...maybe in few months when I have more time.
I want to play the guitar effortlessly and with grace. In very little time… I want to get to the point where I am practicing every day and enjoying it, until it leaves the guise of being a “chore” or “work” and instead becomes like a massage for my soul in the hectic rush of the day; a salvation, yes…?
I’m 14, and have become pretty fluent with a six string, if you dig me. I’m a music enthusiast to the greatest degree, and I’ve only been playing the guitar REALLY seriously for about a year. For beginners, I would definately recomend learning Bar Chords. You see, once learning those (and dramatically increasing the strength of your left hand pointer finger…I mean a lot) you have the ability to play every major, minor, 7th, and minor 7th, chord that exists. This leaves out suspended chords, 6ths, 5ths (which are amazingly easy as well), 9ths, and any other number you can think of. But bar chords are a TREMENDOUS start and you can have an entire career as a musician with just those. Billy Bragg, I believe, plays almost only bar chords and that man is an amazing guitarist. I have never had a guitar lesson, I am 100% self-taught. But if I HAD had lessons, I would have liked to have been taught bar chords from the start. I had to learn them after learning all my major/minor/7 chords manually, in traditional form. My favorite guitarists are Link Wray and Son House, and if you have any questions, comments, or tidbits just let me know.
OK, I had my first lesson yesterday and I bought a used guitar today. I know 3 cords-D, G and A-and I learned to restring and tune from vids off Youtube. My fingers hurt like hell—to fret, you have to be incredibly precise and incredibly strong at the same time. Who knew? I’m committing to an hour a day for four days a week. As for changind from cord to cord, that just looks impossible right now.
Another week…another opportunity to help out with worship. Its time to learn some new chords and strumming patterns.
