DocD is having a rainy day.
I’ve spent a lot of time in rainforests and jungles. They draw me like a magnet. “Jungle, a sea of green, impenetrable, yet beckoning” I guess I’m a botanist at heart. One of my goals is to trek into the rainforest (jungle) of Sumatra and find a raffalasia.

I know some friends of the family who did just this! and they loved it! I hope to see the rainforest still enduring this world for years to come, but before it disapears, i want to be one who gets to see it!

I visitted a rainforest a couple of years ago and plan on visiting another one in the upcoming year. Surprising thing is that you can easily adjust how much “roughing it” that you do. My experience has depended on travel partners and their willingness to be adventurous…which means that we go more “luxury” than my preference. But definately well worth it!!

Such beauty...

I visited another rainforest on holidays last week. Took a walk through and ended up catching up to a guided tour. It was great!
The thing that i love about rainforests is that every single one is different. Once you see one rainforest you have definately NOT seen them all. I’ve been to three, and they have all been unique and magical in their own way.
I also love how you have to look really hard to notice the little things around you that make the rainforest really special: bugs, lizards, moss, vines, sprouts, funghi, birds, etc. ....And it is only then that you get to see the real beauty of such a place.

I visited Olympic National Park, Washington whilst on honeymoon – it’s substantially ancient temperate rainforest. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been!

I’ve been to ones in Central America which were beautiful, but what I can’t wait for is my trip to the Amazon this December.

I visited a rainforest in Ghana (Kakum National Park) last summer and it was fantastic – something I definitely want to do again. They have a canopy walkway there that was a bit scary, seeing as the bridge between the trees was only rope and a few planks of wood (although I don’t know what I was expecting – a bridge of steel, perhaps?!). I stopped in the middle of one of the bridges to take a photo and it swayed so much I really was scared, but looking back, it was worth it for the great photos I got. :D
