How I did it: I spent wisely and put anything I could away in my ING account. Besides that it just takes time (depending on what your income is). I'm hoping my fiance and I will be able to buy a house in the next year or so!
Lessons & tips: Buy only what you need, not want you want.

I go numb when it is time to save. I can be very frugal, make enough of money, i just don’t save. I will start today. $15,000 will be completed by Jan. 15, 2010. Once I receive my paycheck I will make a deposit. Before, I get my paycheck. I will send a deposit of a percentage of what is in my account.

Got a flow of savings money that is good, need to save more. Goal – June ‘09.
I will be leaving the Marine Corps in September and I want to really start a new life. I’m a Miami boy with high ambitions, and I feel like going back will just be far too comfortable. If I’m heading into a situation entirely foreign to me, I know I need to be prepared. I calculated how much I spend each month on rent and other necessities and found that I can save $2,000 a month if I don’t buy anything.
This will be a little harder for me now, as I’m in New York and have a penchant for the expensive. But I know I can do it, and let this be the first real-world trial of the discipline I’ve been so ingrained with through the Corps.
Here’s to suffering with books and my piano.
