EvanLyric getting ready for 2morrow
I stopped smoking almost a year ago, and gained around 25 pounds! I have always prided myself in looking good. I paid for a gym membership two months ago, and have been there 3 times!
How I did it: I just told myself that on the way home from work everyday I would stop by at the gym, just for a half an hour and stick to that. Sometimes I would leave 5 minutes early but sooner than later (2 months) it became a habit. Now it feels normal to go everyday.
Lessons & tips: Set up an easy way to access the gym, set up a gym near your house or on the way home from work, school, anything.
Only set yourself up to go to the gym 15- 30 minutes.
Create an "only for the gym bag," set it up the night before with a sports bra, shoes, socks, ipod, shorts or workout pants. Make sure you are as comfortable you can be in what you are wearing because you are going to be walking into a place where people are all about their outer appearance and men will be looking around for fit booties and all that crap, dont take it offensively, take it as a compliment if they check you out though.
Change your mindset on it, think of the gym as being a great time to do the work we have to do in this society to stay healthy because we are so inactive. Back in the day, people used to walk almost all day long or move all day long.
Do strength... it will change your body, cardio is good 3 times a week in any form (soccer, tennis, walking, hiking) 2 days lower body, 2 days upper body and abs for 5 minutes at the end of each session depending on how hard you have already worked.
you have to take the time to become healthy. ask questions.
A couple other things: be careful about "oral fixation" meaning eating because you love the feeling of the taste so you eat when your stomach is not truly growling (mine starts after 4 hours). Many of us get fixated at a young age when we cried and our parents put a pacifier in our mouths to shut us up but that comforted us, similar to food.
Your meals should be made up primarily of vegetables and fruits.
you have to accept a new way of life where your social life does not revolve around food and find other things to do. In a consumer society like the US its difficult to find much else to do besides gather and eat.
Lastly, do not eat till you're full. Eat till your satisfied.
Resources: getting a gym pass. a car. clothes. good shoes. shoes from runners high, snails pace, chicks. mine were 130 but worth it, it does make a difference when it comes to injuries. An ipod or music player! Some work out shirts, good sports bra and pants or shorts. My own positive thoughts. understanding of exercises, my body and what things are good for my body. Have questions?? Ask me!

well since working and studying for the CPA stuff I have fallen off my wagon as far as the whole gym man junkie I once was addicted to working out everyday and I miss it.
Ed bought a snazzy new smartphone. No more archaic, paper-based task mgt
Nearly 3 full months after my new gym opened, I’ve finally gone back. I’ve been busy, sure, but I’ve also been procrastinating. It’s actually a really nice place. I especially like the dark movie theater with all the cardio equipment in it. My old gym didn’t have that.
Now that I’m back, I don’t want to over-do it. I just want to run a mile a day for a few weeks, just to get back in the habit of being there every day.
Somevirtualday is wondering why she can not keep a job for more than six months
Most important thing in the short run right now. My moods are getting all bipolar and crazy and I KNOW this is the only thing that keeps them stable (especially in the summer with the whole freakishly weird reverse seasonal depression thing). Last week, totally enlightened and insomniac, today, totally suicidal. GYM. It is the only solution.
I go to the gym next to work which just opened a month ago so it’s brand new. I’ve worked out before but the one next to my house and there’s a huge difference. I found that working out downtown, next to work motivated you more. Ok, yeah people are in a better shape but that motivates you to push even more and you can see that people are serious about it. I added spinning classes to my subscription ! If you’ve never done it, DO IT ! There is no other cardio activity that will make you sweat and want for more. At first it was so hard but after 2 times you get way better at it and can see changes in your cardio and your body.
I never loved working out at the gym but spinning got me coming for more and I feel like I could just go everyday.
It’s extremely important to find a gym that you actually love : looks good, clean alot of services and that’s welcoming.
Now I just need to see a trainer once a month to do a progran and update it every month. It will cost more but the benefits will be great. I don’t want this to be a phase and fade out. I really want the gym to be part of my life which is way different view than how I was thinking before. It’s not about losing weight, it’s about living a healthier life and maintaining it forever and stop the yoyo. That’s the only way to get fit and stay fit.
Make it part of your life today !
I registered and plan to go to the gym during the Holiday season and keep it up at least 3 times a week.
I plan on focusing a lot on cardio (by doing the spinning classes) and weight training. First step is done now I just have to focus on a time of day where it’s better for me do train and keep it up.
It’s been a year since I haven’t gone to a gym. I use to go and took on a personal trainer that I would see on a regular basis. Then I realized that I didn’t need to see her so often because she wasn’t pushing me enough and I felt like I was wasting my money so I stopped paying for her and continued briefly on my own. The problem is that the only difference was that I would go because I knew that when I met her and hadn’t gone to the gym for at least 2-3 times a week she would get on my case. It’s like paying for someone to reprimand you.
Now I want to go back but I don’t have the motivation and I don’t want to pay for a trainer again !
