A couple of years ago we went to the North Sea and my daughters had a blast looking for sea shells. They might have enjoyed that better than the rest of the vacation. The temperature wasn’t warm enough to go swimming, or they might have liked that better.
breakthru Not in my backyard, utensils! Go back to China!
I look for seashells everytime I go to a beach
Used to do this all the time when i was a kid and we went on holiday to the beach. It was so much fun. My parents and brothers and i would look for shells together and would fins orange ones and pink ones and my mum was always really good at finding sea urchins but my favourite was a white cowry shell my dad found when i was about 6 and i still have it onmy shelf. I think we still have quite a few of the shells we found in a box somewhere.
I still like to look for shells when i go to the beach but there doesn´t seem to be as many these days. Maybe i just saw them more when i was a kid because i was closer to the ground.
When me & my sister Clare were kids we would always come home from the seaside with shells. :-)
lilliputtigerlily is settling in the Denver area.
every time i go to a beach, i’ve got to look for seashells – St. Augustine beach, Charleston, Santa something-or-other in the San Francisco bay area, South Padre Island, whereever!
As a water person…seashell gathering is just the icing on the cake. Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s (yes…that long ago! LOL) I spent each summer with my Grandparents at Daytona Beach, FL. This is where I learned from the “PRO”...my Louise, an adopted Auntie or Grandma, whatever.. She was the nextdoor neighbor of my grandparents for as long as I can remember and now to this day is still there. (My Grandparents and her husband, Earl have all passed away.) She taught my brother, sister and I when the screw shells were mating (2 for 1!) how to recognize and trap a shell or sand dollar gently under your foot untill the wave receeded, and CRAFTS! Shell magnets, pins, macrame!!!
Although I go back every other year to visit….the beach is just the same, however the shells are not as plentiful. Ask me about “periwinkle soup”! My favorite shelling beach is Sanibel Island, FL. If you go in early July you will be treated to thousands of mating sand dollars! Wear water socks, shells are everywhere!
