I went for a walk in the city centre and sat by the river just watching the boats go by. It was so pleasant: amazing autumn colours, sunny day, not too cold, I had the company of my better half… and I took a very golden picture :)

How I did it: It was serendipity mostly, as my friends all seemed to want to get out for hikes and camping trips this year as compared to other years. Read how I did it…
ashcandruel is enjoying Fall.
How I did it: When I wrote that goal I did not have the dogs. Now that I have two dogs it is imperitive that I walk them, thus I am outside nearly every day. Unless it is pouring rain you will find us either at the beach or walking up and down our hills. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I have learned to immerse myself in nature. I set up a routine. I walk my dogs -and my cat too!- every night. I think about the outdoors with an artistic perspective. I write poetry about nature. I turn down the music when I drive through scenic areas. I go to the park. I swing on playground swingsets and porch swings. I read my mail on the porch if the weather's nice. Basically I find ways to do what I do in everyday life outside, plus s… Read how I did it…
How I did it: We have been thinking about all kinds of ways to get out. Since it is October we have been going to corn mazes and pumpkin patches. Walking the dogs has been a great way to get out everyday. This summer we bought bikes and started riding them instead of driving. Read how I did it…

Went for a walk in a country park
Sunny day making the beautiful autumn colours even more beautiful :)
Yesterday I went walking with BH in King’s Forest not too far from Bury. It was great, we did a 2 mile circular walk. Lovely colours at this time.
Sunday we went to Hylands Park near Chelmsford, another great walk and we saw the cutest westie in the woods :)

Hmm, yesterday an hour end a half’s walk by the lake. Today – 45 minutes’ walk in the rain (I’m all muddy now :D).
I have a muscle ache from the yesterday’s walk. I’m a total disgrace.
But I just got back in and I feel great!! :D

I’m ridiculous. Really.
I live on the outskirts of a city and quit near a nice little forest. I never go there. I don’t drive, true, but I have a bike and, hell, it’s half an hours walk to there. And the walk itself is nice, even if I don’t reach the forest itself. I’m an idiot.
Also, I work from home (the SAID home, the one that is near the forest). I don’t have to go to work, I don’t come home tired. I can work whenever I like. I AM busy, I work a lot, but there’s always TIME (come ON!). I still don’t do it. I should.
And how come I always remember something like this in mid October, when the weather is just starting to get awful?

A pretty tough place to be outdoors, huh?

Very easily outdoor-oriented long weekend. Were planning this too late to grab a campsite so we stayed in a hotel, and our hiking plans were slightly messed up by fire-related trail closures, but at least we made an effort and got out on both mountain and coastal trails. Such a beautiful region of California! We got gorgeous sunshine, and cooler temps than we’ve been getting in San Diego. All around, a very nice start… heading in the right direction with this goal.

Hopefully our long weekend in Big Sur will allow for this. Our plans to get outdoors have been foiled a couple of times now due to school/ work commitments and the dangerously hot temperatures we’ve had of late!
I just returned to work after my first summer off, and boy did I spend a lot of time outdoors. I am tan all over for the first time in years! I did a beach vacation, a 5-day backcountry canoe trip, a 4-day whitewater kayaking/camping trip, and 3-day local camping trip, and a 4-day re-roofing my parents house trip. That’s a lot of sunshine! And that doesn’t count the nearly 20 additional days I spent kayaking the local rivers.
Hopefully I can keep this up through the fall (shouldn’t be hard as river levels rise) and winter (I didn’t ski at all last year—must do better this time around!).
